This Belgian golden ale was brewed in collaboration with Chef Evan Mallet and his staff from the Black Trumpet Bistro and features flavor and aroma contributions from eight edible flowers not commonly found in beer: yarrow, lavender, chamomile, rose buds, elder flowers, calendula, nasturtium and dianthus, that were grown specifically for this beer by Chef Mallet’s staff at Meadow’s Mirth Farm.

Bottle shared at the Referend 3rd anniversary celebration. Picked up many moons ago. Pours lightly hazy orange-gold with a foamy, white head. Lots of flowers, lavender, lightly toasted wheat, moderate sweetness. Light bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Sweet finish with nips of candi sugar, bread, more floral character. For the age and what it is, it isn't bad. Certainly a novelty.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Buy Rite, 12/24/13

Aroma: The nose is hugely floral/potpourri, with some spice, lemon zest, and yeast notes
Appearance: Pours a clear golden-orange color with a small white head and drippy lace spots
Flavor: The taste is floral and spice, mild bitter, some underlying sweetness (citrus and honey)
Palate: The body is light-medium, not watery at all, just light, soft and clean feel, easy finish
Overall Impression: This is an interesting one for sure. They weren't kidding with the whole edible flowers thing, those flavors comes through in droves. It is super easy drinking, fresh, refreshing, and clean, but I'm not sure how often I'd really want to drink a beer this floral. Still, quite interesting, and I really enjoyed drinking it once.

750 ml bottle purchased at Hampton Falls Village Market. Lager glass displays a an amber color with lively carbonation. I wasn’t expecting the aromas. It smells like a holiday spiced beer. All-spice and chamomile big time. No surprise on the taste, same as the nose with the flower or floral notes being drowned out in spice. It is light body with a effervescent feel on the tongue. Smuttynose has no real need to ever brew this again. meh

On tap at EBF 3/16/13. Smells of floral spicy potpourri, that’s what I got anyways. Light yeast phenols mix with a whole lot of floral notes. Different, but not really my cup of tea.
