Moving Parts is an IPA series, celebrating the natural, simple, delicious and fundamental ingredients in beer. With a new batch number released every four months, Victory’s brewmasters will tweak different ingredients within the same recipe to create an endless array of possible flavor profiles.

For the first in the series, MP01, Victory blended whole-flower hops from the U.S., U.K. and Germany, with German malts. The result is a well-balanced IPA featuring citrus and piney notes. At 7.2% ABV, it is extremely drinkable.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Mastikim. Thanks Tom L. Slightly hazy yellow-golden. Hoppy aroma, citric, piney and slightly stale. Flavor has some malt, mildly sweetish, with piney and citric hops and a nice bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Quite nice.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 11/6/2014. Pours fairly crystal clear bright gold color with a 2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, lime, grapefruit, orange zest, apricot, citrus rind, pine, floral, grass, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops and moderate pale malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, lime, grapefruit, orange zest, apricot, citrus rind, pine, floral, grass, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon/orange zest, lime, grapefruit, apricot, citrus rind, pine, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate pale malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice IPA. All around good complexity and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate pale malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bomber shared by Marcus. Pours orange gold with a creamy off-white head. Mixed citrus aroma. Creamy med body. Flavor is lots of floral/citrus/pine, generating a bit of a burn. Nice, smooth, tasty, non-harsh hoppy, bitter finish.

2 finger white bubbly head. Burnt gold appearance. Smells pretty dank, overly burnt white oak and a touch of tropical fruit. This is decent. lots of mango and papaya up front. the finish and very bitter…burnt sort of gritty. Not very good.

22 oz. bottle, mostly clear amber/ orange color with light head. Aroma smells like a pilsner. Pilsner malt, light grassy notes and lager yeast. Really? Why am I smelling lager yeast?

Flavor start with a lot of bready and pilsner malt. The hop is grassy with a Saaz like quality. Light notes of honey and lemons. Very low bitterness with a sweet caramel finish. But yet again, I taste lager yeast. Very thin body with crisp texture.

Bomber from Beer Run, 7/20/14. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a large frothy white head. Good head retention. Aroma of floral, citrus, earthy hops and pale and raw malt. The taste is floral, earthy, minty, citrus hops, caramel malt. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness, low carbonation, decent balance.

22oz bomber. Golden-tan body, looks filtered. Creamy off-white head. A really solid IPA. Lots of chewy malt depth, and a well rounded hop bill. Crisp and drinkable, not syrupy. Toasty, rich golden malt. Pretty much an awesome East Coast IPA, if that makes any sense...certainly has some UK sensibilities despite the ABV. Lots of depth. Solid IPA.

Pours gold into a snifter. Bright white head with excellent retention recedes leaving sheet lacing. Sweet pine and citrus aromas. Soft with mango and pine upfront turning to resin in the dry, medium length finish. Carbonation tastes like a cask.
