Shared 12 oz. bottle. Giant head (possibly infected?) Dark brown, almost black; opaque. Beige head. Aroma of roasted malt. Taste is roasted malt with chocolate notes. Finish is quite acidic, unfortunately. Not bad, but need to re-rate.

Bottle pour into tulip glass from One Stop Market. Aroma is mild roast and chocolate with stronger lactose. Appearance is opaque black with finger-width light brown head with fair retention and nice soapy lacing. Taste is smoky, almost ashen, balance of bitter and sweet roasted/burnt malts/dark fruits similar to chocolate covered espresso beans. Palate is medium bodied with creamy texture, average to lively carbonation, and lingering pleasant bitter roasted finish. Overall, gorgeous looking and more going on with taste than aroma suggests and nice palate. A winner.

Pours a dark brown. Lots of unsweetened chocolate aroma and flavor. Thin, bitter, like an oatmeal stout. Good beer.

On tap at ACBF 6/1/2013 Nice chocolate malt flavor and aroma offset with a spicy earthy bite. Creamy silky smooth mouthfeel. Nice porter, a little different, but I enjoyed it.

Bottle at the Beer Shop, East Longmeadow, MA during a meet the brewer event, 19/05/13. Mid black with a dirty tan head. Nose is roast malt, liqourice, chocolate, rye notes. Taste comprises roast malt, chocolate, molasses, mineral tones, sugars. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, roasty finish. A very decent porter and by far and away the best of the 3 Brewmaster Jack beers I tried out on this day.

22 oz. bottle from Ryan and Casey’s for a price of $7.35. Shared with Phatdog1. Deep black thin a thin ring of tan head. Nose is rich with coffee and chocolate. Taste is a strange spicy rye in the center of the porter that can be found for the duration. Coffee grounds with a sharp bitterness toward the finish. The rye for sure gives this porter a different spin.

Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours deep brown with a thick, brown cream head. Nice coffee nose, light smokey roast, cocoa and dirt. Light to medium sweet flavor, earthy bitterness, bittersweet chocolate. Light bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Some dirty earth to finish, wet leaves, cocoa. So so. A little thin.

Pours black into an English pint. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Sweet roasted nuts and chocolate aromas. Creamy upfront with chocolate and roasted nuts turning dry in the lasting pumpernickel and espresso finish.
