The Butcher and the Rye, tap: pours clear amber with a white head. Atoma is pine, light citrus and heavy malt. Taste is relatively bitter. Kind of malty. Not a bad IPA bit most definitely old school.

On tap at Industry. Pours a hazy copper with small off white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is pine, dank, resin. Medium body, grapefruit, pine, lingering bitter finish, good.

355ml bottle [Thanx again to David for the generous Penn-import!]. Milky amber colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Intense, room-filling, piney hoppy aroma, notes of grapefruit and orange, caramel malty background, strawberry overtones. Taste is crisp bitter hoppy, dry, piney, minimally sweet, caramel malty background, increasing hop bitterness, almost completely disguised fruitiness. Classy IPA with bitterness at the upper limit.

Slightly hazy copper coloured body with an orange glow and absolutely no head at all. Aroma of very strong biscuity malt with a piney, resinous and grapefruity hop hick and some sweet notes of honey and apricots. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and piney kick at first with not much malt behind it, but the aftertaste shows even more of a hop kick and some lighter sweetness at the finish. Aftertaste is blindly showing the hops but fading to a grassy, herbal kick with a nice smooth bitterness - this is more of a hop-forward IPA with missing malt, but this is good for folks who like session IPAs that weren’t intentional. Overall, a hop-centred IPA with less malt than you’d expect, but for me, that’s a good thing, just know that going into it that it’s off in balance and enjoy the hop kicks! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tampa, Florida on 03-January-2014 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 17-May-2014. Best by Date on Bottle of February 2014, Lot #379.
