The legendary hop-hunter Krunkles turns up yet again, back from a tour of the Orient. His mission this time is to get experimental; his unbounded travels have earned him an honorary doctorate (“Doctor of what?”, you may ask? This would be a question to which only Krunkles knows the answer…) and he’s sequestered himself in the lab perfecting a never-before-seen formula for his beloved IPA.
Dr. Krunkles White Farmhouse IPA reaches new heights in complexity and flavor by combining the malt and spices of a Belgian Witbier, the yeast of a Farmhouse Ale, and the hoppy goodness of an American IPA. Krunkles’ twisted touch is a dash of white peppercorn followed by wood aging on white ash

$6.99 bomber from Wine Warehouse, CHO. Blonde with way too much off-white head. Smells of bubblegum, maple, pine, citrus. Taste is candy, leaves, citrus, pine, fruit. Interesting.

Strong peach nose. Hazy golden, thick head, good lacing, gushed out of the bottle, effervescent for a very long time, would not settle down. Peach and mango flavor. Slightly musty pear finish. Very harsh mouthfeel, medium body, alcohol evident. This was an old bottle that held up pretty well. The hops fell out, but it left a delightfully fruity yet way overcarbonated farmhouse ale.

Crisp, slightly cloudy light amber and copper coloured body with a ridiculously large, white, billowy head about six centimetres tall. Aroma of yeast, coriander seed, curacao, full oranges, grass, hay and hops. Medium-bodied; Pungent alcohol shows up first with some yeast notes, a lot of wheat and grassy flavours and a large and assertive hop character that has a lot of herbal elements. Aftertaste shows a good balance of grass, hay, yeast, alcohol, spices and earth with a very floral flavour. Overall, a very nice white IPA with a ton of flavour and even better complexity with a dry finish. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia on 09-August-2014 for US$8,99 sampled at home in Washington on 16-October-2014.

Bottle: Poured a yellow color ale with some hazy white hue and a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of coriander and wheat malt with some light citrusy hops is quite pleasant. Taste is also a well balanced mix between some coriander and other spices with light fruity ester with some light dry citrus hops and light sweet rustic malt which may contain some wheat. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. This beer is not necessarily earth shattering but well enjoyable with good drinkability.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy golden amber color with a 2 finger foamy and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon zest, pear, apple, tangerine, pineapple, orange peel, coriander, clove, peppercorn, wheat, straw, herbal, grass, light oak, light bubblegum, and yeast funk/earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop, spice, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon zest, tangerine, pineapple, orange peel, pear, apple, wheat, coriander, clove, peppercorn, straw, herbal, grass, light oak, light bubblegum, and yeast funk/earthiness. Light wheat tartness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, tangerine, pineapple, pear, apple, coriander, clove, wheat, peppercorn, straw, herbal, grass, light oak, light bubblegum, and yeast funk/earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and balance of hop, spice, and yeast ester flavors; with a crisp malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and moderately prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice white IPA. All around good balance and complexity of hop, spice, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Hazy medium yellow with a generous fluffy white head. Belgian yeast aroma with some lemony tartness. The flavor is tart and lemony like a witbier, slightly sour and tart with some Belgian funk like a farmhouse ale and there may be some hop thing going on after all of that but it’s lost below the tartness.Interesting beer.
