473ml can. Smooth, hoppy and slightly roasty with loads of pine, grassy herbal notes, citrus, tropical fruits, coffee and chocolate, full body with mild bitterness. Soft and super well balanced. Great stuff, just a bit more bitterness and this would've been perfect

Growler shared. Black with creamy thick brown head. Lots of chocolate, roasted malts, citrusy hops, dank fruity hops, soft weedy notes, coffee, mint, light earthy, marzipan, lime. Chocolate with citrus filling. Solid medium sweet and medium bitter. A light tart touch. Over medium bodied.

Growler at home with thanks 🙏 to Maakun. Black with light tan head. Sweet deep dark roasted chocolate malts, deep earthy and fruity coffee, grassy and weedy hoppy. Sweet, bitter, hop essence tartness. Over medium body and soft carbonation. Very tasty and uplifting fresh and mouthfeel.

Can. Shiny black with a thick, medium head. Nose is great: citrus, herbs, spruce tips, chocolate. Very floral. Sweet and strong flavor, raisins, light vanilla, herbal, minty, licorice. Very unique and excellent.

Pours mahogany tinged black into a shaker. Mocha head with good retention recedes leaving scant sheets to coat surface. Dark smoked chocolate aromas. Thick with sweet chocolate, licorice and soy upfront turning to dark pine and resin before the dry, sweet espresso finish.

Can from brewery that pours a dark brown colour with copper highlights. The big frothy, creamy, light-mocha coloured head has great retention and leave creamy lacing behind. Big nose of roasted dark malts giving notes of plums, prunes and hints of soya sauce, over the hops in the background. The taste is also full, with the roasted malts, coffee and fresh grassy hoppy finish. A nice dry mouthfeel, and a beautiful warming. A very complex Imperial Black IPA that goes down nicely.

Pours a dark, cola-black, with middling, tan head. Aroma of burnt toast, coffee, chocolate, hop-pine, citrus. Flavors include roasted grain, coffee, chocolate, leather, some citrus, and pine/spruce hoppiness. It's a good black IPA. Is it the best I've ever tried? No.

750mL growler filled 12/17 and drunk 12/19/16.
Dark cocoa-ebony body is of indeterminable clarity. Topped by a large, dense, light-tan head with strong retention. Looks perfect.
The nose is very aromatic, with just the right amount of dark malt character (which to say, is very light, as it should be). Hops are incredibly juicy, showing pine, guava, lime, mango and ruby red grapefruit. They assert themselves through the dark malts and the end result is a very lightly roasty, juicy, spicy, floral, highly fragrant nose with no alcohol or flaw.
And so it goes in the mouth, with a supple, even slightly sticky texture full of a hint of molasses, treacle and mild, fruity coffee and just full-on juicy, lovely, bright hop notes. Pine and grapefruit, but none of the unwanted aspects that are usually associated with that (heavy resin, overdone bitterness, astringency). Ultra-tight carbonation and a soft texture, with appropriate attenuation leaving the beer dry but not too much so.
Again just in awe of Shaun’s beers. This is a style I actively don’t like and here it’s absolutely delicious and compelling....
