(Vintage 2003, bottle, Royal Oak, Borough, London 25 Apr 2007) Black colour with small brown head. Roasted, vinous nose with liquorice, coffee, tar, fresh asphalt and sweetish notes of vanilla. Roasted, full taste packed with liquorice, vanilla, wood and citrus. Long, roasted, bittersweet finish. Full body, oily mouthfeel (almost like liquid asphalt). Very tasty, not particularly balanced, but still very nice.

Bottle. 2001. Clear black color with virturually none head. Aroma is port, soya sauce, licorice, alcohol, dark fruit. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter, sour with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. Very nice ;o))

330ml bottle from Utobeer, London. 2001 Vintage. Coal black body with a dark reddish foam reduced to no head at all after a short while. Aroma of dark fruits and berries. Lots of dark fruits like plums in flavour. Port- and sherry-like impression. Not more than alright and a bit too vinous for my taste (08.04.2007).

Getrunken beim 1. BTO-Treffen. Alkoholischer Kirschgeruch, in gewisser Weise an Rotwein erinnernd. Alkoholisches Aroma, lakritzartig. Besonders hat es mir allerdings der Nachgeschmack angetan, der angenehm weich und tief röstmalzern erscheint. Dabei ist er unheimlich lang. Interessantes Bier! Test vom 30.12.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,12,4,14,14,12 - 11,00

Thanks Doggythedog for sharing this with me.
Bottled(330ml). –Deep black coloured, almost no head maybe because of ages, cherry port nose. Strong roasted coffee and licorice aroma with notes of dark chocolate. Slight salty and smoked hints. Sharp sour finish. It’s pity that I haven’t tried this beer at least year or two earlier. 2001 vintage

Bottle (12/12) courtesy of Papsoe (thanks!), shared with ozujsko Harvey’s Imperial Extra Double Stout 2001 I couldn’t wait to try this one... The cork came out without as much fuss as those "pressurized bottle" made us thought, and yes, it was flat, pitch black, with only tiny remnants of what would’ve been a brown head a few years ago. It smelled nice and interesting; port, dry figs, and primarily our Griotte candy (chocolate, filled with cherry brandy). I loved it, and went to drink it with great expectations. And then it hit me... it was so damn salty I made a face. Soy sauce, tobacco ash, coffee, some sourness, touch of cinnamon, plum brandy.... too damn salty. Like someone dissolved a teaspoon of salt in it. I love salty food, but... nah. If I had it in Split, not in Zagreb with ozujsko, I would’ve probably given most of it to my mother to use instead of tamari sauce... I’ll try a fresh(er) sample again... right now I feel as I’ve overrated it.

le Coq. Bottle says 2001. Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Alchohol and red wine aromas. Mocha head hugs rim in medium bubbles. Sour and thin with extreme alcohol and fig notes.

2001 bottle at christian firtal Odense: . Black with a reddish hew. No head at all. Vinous and roasty malty aroma. Some liquorice & smoke. Filling & creamy texture. warmth from alcohol. Very sour, almost like a Beer rouge. Finish is long and again vinous and has slight bitterness. Never tasted an imperial stout this vinous - different.

[2001 bottle] Black with just a thin veil of head. Soy-sauce and sweet liquorice on the nose. Very sweet with roasty, oaky, salty flavours. Very complex but might just get a little bit too much after half a bottle. Definitley something for the fans of Samuel Adams Triple Bock.
