Between raiding and conquering, the Vikings worked up quite a thirst. This traditional Finnish beer is strong, unfiltered and made with rye, barley and juniper berries. We decided to compliment ours with Chinook and Simcoe hops for an added piney flavour.

On tap at the brewery. Muddy brown with no head, it has a soft hop aroma with plenty of malt on the back end. The taste is some kind of semi-spicy malt mix with a sugary finish. Could be some juniper notes on the back end but they are way too subtle. All in all it comes across as a rather boring sweet malty beer.

Bottle - Floral and piney with a nice sweetness. Deep cloudy copper with a rich beige head. Piney, boozy and a bit malty in the finish. This smelled pretty nice but a bit to herbal and boozy for me.

Had to try it. Muddy chestnut...a little too brown. Nice thick head. Hoppy aroma, light citrus and pine. Spicy, ok this is a vaguely hoppy, slightly berryish fruity yeasty ale. I get a little juniper (berry?) but standard ale yeast. This is no sahti.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Clear, medium brown with off-white head. Grassy hops, some pine and juniper on the nose. Taste of rye malt and mild-medium hoppiness, hint of juniper. Medium body, slightly creamy texture.

Cloudy dark amber color with small but persistent head. Very light aroma, some apricot. Good body strength, moderately sweet, with some malt flavor, if there is any herb or spice the character is subtle; strong bitterness.
It’s a good strong Ale, a bit dirty though.

Hazy dark mahogany color, with creamy head. Malty brew, caramelly, slightly herbal, perfumy, with correct bitterness,. A good Ale, between American and Belgian; not a true Sahti, but maybe it’s better this way.

650 ml bottle. Pours a clear brown/orange with moderate white foamy head. Aromas of pine and light dark fruit. Flavors are similar with definite berry flavors (maybe juniper). Sharp bitter finish.

650mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out loads of rye, earthy notes, wheat and a touch of roast - super earthy stuff. Flavour brings out loads of rye, earthy hops, and further back, juniper berries. Quite dominated by the rye and earthy hops. Doesn't taste as twig-like as other sahtis I've had, but I've not had that many. Excellent stuff.
