Gourd of Thunder is a dark and gnarly Imperial Pumpkin Porter brewed with freshly picked local pumpkins that were ripened on the vine while continuously listening to heavy metal. The malty pumpkin backbone fuses robustly with a milky sugar creaminess. Bourbon vanilla beans lay down a rock-steady foundation that drives the cinnamon, ginger and clove spices through your skull. This brew does not merely mimic the flavor of a mortal pumpkin pie. Gourd of Thunder will cataclysmically blow your mind with its face-melting, high-voltage attitude. Headbangers Unite!

Big brown bottle poured into a glass. Cloudy brown with small beige head. Aroma is ginger, medium body, low carbonation, and some lacing. Taste is big ginger and dark wood. Not my thing.

Draft - Too much pumpkin spice, especially clove. Deep dark brown with a thin beige head. Tastes as it smells, tons of clove.

Location: Draft at the brewery, 1/17/15
Aroma: It has a strong pumpkin spice (nutmeg, cinnamon, etc.) aroma, some malts as well.
Appearance: Mahogany in color, with a small beige head, and light, spotty lace.
Flavor: The taste is on the sweeter side, brown sugar, caramel, and lots of spice as well.
Palate: It has a pretty nice mouthfeel to it, with a lingering pumpkin spice finish.
Overall Impression: A very enjoyable pumpkin beer. It finds a solid balance between the sweetness and the spice. Definitely one that is worth a try.
