Schwarzbier wird sehr gerne mit Starkbier verwechselt, obwohl sie außer der ähnlichen Phonetik nichts Grundlegendes gemeinsam haben. Die Bezeichnung „Schwarzbier“ fordert einzig, dass das betreffende Bier mindestens 50 IBU Farbeinheiten hat. Im Lahnsteiner Fall basiert das Schwarzbier wie das Altbier auf der Rezeptur des Obergärigen. Der Anteil an Röstmalz ist jedoch deutlich höher als beim Altbier.

On tap as 'Alte Thorschenke Schwarz' in the fake 'brauhaus' of the same name (in Cochem). All four draft beers are brewed by Lahnsteiner according to the staff. 0.4 Litre glass of this tried on 8th November 2025 with a meal. Weak and watery Schwarz bier with a semi sweet front, drinkable but not great.

Bottle sampled at Festival der Bierkulturen, Koln. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of roast, malt and nuts. Flavour is light moderate sweet and bitter. Light medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Dunkelbraunes Bier mit wenig Schaum. Geruch röstmalzig, erdig, trocken. Geschmack röstmalzig, wässrig, metallisch.

Bottle at Wasana’s local tasting, courtesy of Matthias, thanks! Clear dark brown color, light brown head with good retention. Aroma and taste are both roasty and nice. Tasty.

Milder, obergärig malziger Antrunk. Wenig Hefe, im Mittelteil leicht röstig, trocken, leider in Teilen metallern. Weich, trocken, etwas röstig-malzig. Torfiger Abgang, sehr trocken. Trotz der erwähnten Trockenheit nicht schlecht. 12/9/10/9//9

Black colour, light brown head. Aroma: roasted malt, chocolate, a bit salty. Taste is of roasted malts and a bit of chocolate. One-dimensional and ends watery.

Lahnsteiner Schwarzbier, tap, Kafe Belgie. I guess this rating is this beer, as I can’t find any other information about it. Anyway, it pours a dark black color, short off-white head. Soft aroma of some roasted malt, licorice and rye, but quite soft. Roasty taste, like a typical schwarzbier. Not very strong, but decent taste. Quite creamy. Not bad.
