Hellshire V is a hearty Export-style Stout aged for 9 months in freshly emptied Knob Creek bourbon barrels. Soft vanilla and cocoa notes intertwine with oak, bourbon, and the beer’s complex malt flavors. We’ve aged it for enjoyment now, or cellar it dry and cool for a few.

10 years old! 22 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma seems a bit muted, with subtle bourbon barrels, and cocoa. Flavour retains the barrel, with plenty of bourbon barrels, some earthiness, and toasted malt. This is definitely a bit past its prime, but it’s reasonably done.

Dark brown. Not much head. The aroma has a fruity accent, with a bit of dark sugar notes. Gentle alcohol, some crackery notes. It's decent, not something that's done well with age, but hasn't necessarily downgraded either.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Very dark brown with small beige head. Slight fruitiness per the export style, gentle dry roast quality, feint bourbon note. Decent for an export stout, especially at 10 years old.

[2015 Vintage] 500mL bottle. Pours black with foamy beige head. Roasted malt and dry cacao on the nose. Flavour has toasted malts, stale bread, dry cacao, fairly gentle bourbon barrels. A bit thin, but the flavour profile has decent complexity.

bomber bottle, wax dipped. black pour with a small brown head that soon fades to a fine ring. The aroma is strong with whiskey, vanilla and dark fruits. The taste mirrors the aroma with dark fruits, anise, vanilla and bourbon barrel. Thje palate is full anf oily. carbonation is soft. Finishes long and semi sweet. Overall: decent quaff, compares favorably to dark lord and other monsters. Pairesd well with some aged gouda cheese.

Bottle at Hunah Day. Pours a very dark brown with medium beige head that lasts. The aroma is wood, cocoa, roast. Thick body, chewy, roast, boozy finish, very good.

Bottle, picked this one up a year ago, sort of lost in the back of the fridge I guess. Dark brown color with a creamy brown head. Aroma is sublime; vanilla, chocolate, and bourbon barrel. Great weight, silky and substantial mouthfeel. Flavors of vanilla, milk chocolate, lacto, and bourbon barrel. Soft, the taste is lighter than the aroma would suggest, but quite good. I think this would have held its own at the annual Boise Imperial Stout Tasting last week...

Bomber from Belmont. Pours a pitch black color with a medium brown head. A big sweet bourbon nose. The flavor is charred wood, smoke, some heat, roast, light milky coffee, big vanilla bourbon. Very nice beer. Hot and big, but drinkable. Finishes dry oak and vanilla. Light dark fruit.
