Horchata is a traditional, sweet, milky drink originating in Spain and Latin America that has become quite popular in Southern California, particularly with Mexican cuisine. Our take on the traditionally non-alcoholic drink is a blonde ale brewed with a heavy dosing of rice, cinnamon and fresh vanilla beans along with lactose for a little extra creamy character. If you didn't know better, you'd think it was carbonated horchata. The flavor is hard to describe, but for those who know it, you know you love it. This limited edition variation on our seasonal release is spruced with a bit more spice for extra kick.

Keg at Beer Run, 5/9/15. Clear golden, large foamy white head, good retention. Aroma of strong vanilla and hints of cinnamon. The taste is vanilla, cinnamon, rice, citrus, pale malt. Medium bodied.

On tap at the Bruery. Aroma has tons of cinnamon with a light nuttiness. Some vanilla and rice notes. Faint malt character and medium light alcohol. Pours a slightly cloudy, golden orange without much of s head. No lacing and medium legs. Flavor has a really nice rice, cinnamon and vanilla character. Faint malt and some alcohol spice. Rather sweet with a faint bitterness. Tastes just like horchata with a bit of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium full to full bodied with medium low to low carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. A better mouthfeel than the regular version. Overall, a really nice version of an horchata beer and better than the regular version with a nice, thicker, creamier mouthfeel. Nice cinnamon and almond character with some vanilla notes. While really good, I wouldn’t want to drink a horchata beer very often.
