30cl Fles, gekocht bij de brouwerij. Donkerbruine kleur, beige kraag. Cacaopoeder, toast, licht gebrande mout, caramel, wat donker fruit, hint van bruine suiker, theeblaadjes, droog, degelijk bitter, niet te zoet. Lichte tot medium body. Fijne Dubbel.

'Dubbel' by this rather quiet but reliable brewery in the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands, shared with Craftmember. Medium thick, frothy, pale greyish beige, membrane-lacing, mousy head on a crystal clear bronze-mahogany brown beer with coppery tinge, turning hazy with sediment. Aroma of cocoa powder, old gingerbread, date wine, dried peach, ground hazelnuts, brown bread, nutmeg, prunes, tea, toffee, pear. Sweetish but remarkably clean onset, some fig and prune notes, hint of baked banana, medium carbonation, vague sourish undertone; smooth mouthfeel, hazelnutty and bit milk-chocolatey maltiness, very slightly toasty-bitter here and there with a tea-ish herbal hop bitterish tail even though most of the 'finishing' bitterness comes from the malts; light powderiness and dried fruit notes linger. Interesting: I expected a Belgian style 'abbey' dubbel, but what I got, is a much more generic, less yeasty and much more malt-forward ale that bears many more resemblances with Anglo-Saxon style brown ales than Belgian dubbels. Not bad in that sense, but underachieving a bit compared with other Maallust beers I had before.

Bottle brought back from the brewery - thanks, mom & dad! Pours hazy brown with a lasting, small, foamy, tan head. Aroma of liquorice, caramel, red & green apple, pear, tea leaves, toast, peanut, raisin. Taste is medium fruity sweet, offering ripe pear, dried banana & apple, sourish touch connecting it to malty liquorice, caramel & bread with a herbal bitterness of tea, toast, bark & nuts underneath. Dry, herbal hoppy finish, bit spicy, phenolic, more liquorice & pear. Medium body, creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Unusual accents for a Dubbel but certainly interesting & worth the try.

Bottle. Dark brown color. Caramel, roast and a hint of chocolate in the aroma. Malty roasty sweet flavor, with hints of raisin. Tasty!

0.3 l bottle from 'Sterk Avondverkoop', best before May 2019. Clear, ruby with a very thin, frothy, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly yeasty and a little fruity aroma of chocolate, raisins, nuts and some caramel. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly yeasty-spicy and a bit fruity taste of caramel, brown sugar, nuts, cocoa, raisins and some clove, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly yeasty-spicy and a little roasty finish. Medium body, slightly creamy and gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Decent Dubbel, nowhere near e.g. Westmalle though.

Van tap tijdens het Noordelijk Kerst & Winterbieren festival in Hoogeveen. Wat zoet, wat kruidig, wat kleffig, maltig. Weinig uitgesproken. (12-2014).

Dark brown with thin head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of chocolatey malts. Really creamy texture
