500ml bottle on 12th September 2020. Almost impenetrably black with fast-reducing pale tan foam. Mildly roasty aroma. Caramel maltiness and a touch of roastiness in-mouth, and a sweet malt finish. Medium bodied with an engaging texture, the mouthfeel being one of the beer’s pluses.

Bottle from Morrisons. Hope I’m rating this in the right palce, as the bottle definitely said 4.5%, not 4.2%. Has a complex aroma of aniseed, liquorice and milky chocolate. Pours almost black, with a vigorous but transient beige head. In the mouth there is an initial bitter sharpness before the smooth chocolate kicks in. Bitterness lingers in the finish, with a hint of alcoholic strength. Nice, but a little watery.
