Hearty malts meld with a subtle balance of hops to create a dark and nurturing ale of comfort and complexity. Hints of bittersweet chocolate and espresso fill the tongue, finishing with just a touch of smoke. Not too sweet or filling, this versatile dark ale dissuades the notion that a darker beer is a stronger beer. Five varieties of roasted malts are the source of Porter’s dark color and rich taste, while two varieties of hops bring a mellow bite to this deep toasty ale.
Porter is our darkest beer, but not necessarily our strongest. It is widely held that the darker the beer, the stronger the beer, but this is summarily false. The contribution of color comes directly from the color of malt that we use. Some malt is roasted to achieve dark color and coffee-like flavor which in turn get transferred to the beer. Our Porter is richly complex with overtones of chocolate and espresso beans followed by a subtle flavor of hops. It’s a nourishing beer without being too sweet or filling

--- Beer merged from original tick of Porter (Dark Robust) on 23 May 2018 at 16:06 - Score: 7

Bottle @ NYC Craft Beer Festival. Dark inky brown with small off-white head, caramel aroma, low carbonation, roasted malt - caramel taste, long bitter finish. Good but the roasted bitterness was too predominant.

12 oz bottle. Poured a deep brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted grains and malts, light chocolate notes. Light coffee, some bitter cocoa, light brown sugar. Pretty tasty and a solid porter.
