The sour tang of Scratch #258, a wheat-based golden ale, is derived from the addition of copious amounts of sour cherries and lactobacillus, the same microbe that gives yogurt its tartness.

Sampled on draft at 99 Bottles this beer poured a reddish amber color with a huge foamy pinkish white head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was sweetish and a bit yeasty with a light cherry note. The flavor was tart and sour with cherry and a medicinal note. Drier than I expected. Medium length finish. medium body. Meh.

On tap at Max’s Rare and Obscure 2016, pours a clear goldish with some cloudy, white head. Nose has yogurt, cherry, lemon, raisin. Flavor is oily with lemon and cherry and yogurt and lemon, mild spice, rose hips, hibiscus. Tart finish.

This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a transparent ruddy red cherry color. Sly transparency rising. No head - and no lacing.
The aroma started with a nice balance between sweet Maraschino cherry fleshy portion to the tart cherry skin. Warming sour notes of cherry juice underneath.
The flavor starts with the sour cherries and develops into the sweet to subtle sour balance. The aftertaste seems a bit piney with a touch of sour. It ends up leading into a clean balanced sweet to sour finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice balance between sipping to sessionable feeling. Low carbonation. Sour harshness seems to hit appropriately.
Overall, this was a very well done American wild ale with the cherries taking the lead throughout in a fresh appeal.

Taste and smell, this beer rocks. i need all beers to taste like this, so nice and so friendly. Hides alky well and never comes across like a alky pop, no sir eeee. Very good, leaves a really good impression on the palate. Finish? What finish? Darn, it’s all gone. You go girl!
