Bottle, 22oz, at the taproom. Black in the glass, with a dense finger thick tan head. Some lacing. The aroma has some spiced notes, like a pumpkin ale, with lots of coffee, some dark chocolate and some licorice. It’s full bodied, almost sticky, smooth and warming, with a soft carbonation. Chocolate, booze, coffee, roasted malts, salty licorice and a touch of spiced in the aroma. Lasting finish. Quite lovely this one. 150616

22 oz bottle from a mail trade with an Ohio friend. Black with semi-formed tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, sweet roasty notes, caramel, slight dark fruit and soy sauce. Tastes of dark chocolate, yeast, sweet roast, caramel, toffee. biscuit. Not as bitter and roasty as BORIS. Full body with a dry finish. Prefer the original BORIS recipe but this is a nice variation on BORIS.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in late 2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark brown head with solid retention, that reduces to a spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, dark bread, toast, coffee, light char, oats, light molasses, light raisin, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, dark bread, cocoa, toast, roasted malt, biscuit, molasses, coffee, light char, oats, light raisin, and roasted earthiness. Light roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, dark bread, roasted malt, toast, biscuit, molasses, coffee, oats, light raisin, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity of big dark/roasted malt flavors; with nice roast/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice imperial stout. All around good balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

On draught at World Of Beer. Brownish-black pour with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Medium to full body with flavors of chocolate malt, coffee and some hops. Slight briny character in the background. The finish is roasty with a chocolate aftertaste. Good overall.
