Based on wheat malt, Tumulus Nera is a triple wheat stout and a perfect marriage between the Anglo-Saxon stout and the Belgian-style triple beers. The natural black colour (218 EBC) is created solely by the use of roasted malts. Like all other Tumulus beers, Tumulus Nera is a full-malt beer brewed in accordance with the demanding rules of the “Reinheitsgebot”. A noble hop is used for the hopping of this black beer leading to a final bitterness of 45 EBU. Tumulus Nera is a top fermented beer with refermentation in the bottle.

Almost black in colour. Aroma of roasted malts and sweet, milky coffee. Full, rich flavour with lots of bitter roasted malts. Also a light sweetness for balance. Very good.

Belgian stout, and unexpectedly nice. Notes of coffee and burned malt, with some nice yeast of course, they’re still Belgians.

Dark almost opaque color, steady creamy brownish head. Anise and licorice in the aroma. Medium-bodied. Roasted malty, licorice, maybe some anise in the flavor too. Sweetish and raisiny.

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems. BBF 11/10/2014. Black but not the darkest black, fading creamy mocha head. Nose carries some roast, slight ashes, slightly creamy, cheap chocolate, the kind of cream additives you get for your coffee in café’s, light liquorish & roasted malts. Taste is roast, coffee roast, very powdery, slight ashes, some of the previously mentioned coffee cream, grounds, roasted malts, slightly milky. Lighter stout body. Yowza, a good stout from Belgium, now there is not many you see around of those. Great beer. Apparently won the Silver Medal at the Brussels Beer Challenge in 2012, rightly so. Very delicious, Stouterik is probably the only one that beats this one from what I have had so far as far as Belgian stouts’s go, only stouts, no RIS’s.
