Based on wheat malt, Tumulus Nera is a triple wheat stout and a perfect marriage between the Anglo-Saxon stout and the Belgian-style triple beers. The natural black colour (218 EBC) is created solely by the use of roasted malts. Like all other Tumulus beers, Tumulus Nera is a full-malt beer brewed in accordance with the demanding rules of the “Reinheitsgebot”. A noble hop is used for the hopping of this black beer leading to a final bitterness of 45 EBU. Tumulus Nera is a top fermented beer with refermentation in the bottle.

(bottle, 33cl) Dark brown colour with a brown, firm and short foamy head. Moderately roasty malty aroma with notes of dark chocolate, dark berries and coffee beans. Mildly sweet and roasty bitter flavour, full bodied with a soft carbonation. Roasty malt character with a balanced bitterness-sweetness ratio, dark and dried fruits, burnt wood, ashes and a tinge of alcohol; medium-dry bitter-sweet roasty and subtle fruity finish with a warming alcoholic note. Pleasant. 04.II.13

33cl Bottle from ABS Drinks Winksele. Black colour, creamy beige head. Aroma of Dutch rum beans (chocolates with rum and coffee), hard roasted malts, quite sweet as well, moccha. Flavour is less sweet than expected, cream, hard roasted malts, moccha, bitter chocolate, smooth bitter finish. Medium-bodied, smooth mouthfeel. Highly enjoyable stout.

Very good, dense if irregular dark cream head, very resistent over near-black beer. Chocolate (with a touch of mint), roasted, coffee, burnt cookies. Everything suggesting roasted/burnt sweetness. Very ashy, lighlty smoked, dry stoutflavours; much less sweet than suggested by the nose, and way more balanced. Finish has something hot, like pepper or chili. Reasonably creamy MF, yet not truly well-bodied; slick; well-carbonated. Pretty decent stout!

Very dark brown to black beer, small beige head, unstable, pretty adhesive. Aroma: sweet caramel, mocha, coffee. MF: lots of carbon (too much to be good), medimu body. Taste: caramel, dark chocolate, some grilled nuts. Aftertaste: more dark chocolate, coffee. Not bad at all!
