Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with cacao nibs and vanilla beans

The reign of Black Tuesday was destined to grow with the creation of Chocolate Rain. This decidedly decadent version of our bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout was treated with TCHO cacao nibs and juicy, fresh vanilla beans. Rich in chocolate and vanilla, with hints of oak, it truly puts the “imperial” in imperial stout.

Bottle @ DØE meeting. Huge thanks to Shane for this one. Pours dark brown with a small light brown head. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, port, alchohol, light sweet coffee notes. Taste is very sweet with sweet malts, dark filled chocolate, vanilla, hints of alcohol, chocolate dipped dark fruits, port, strong booze. Medium body, low carbonation, finishes with a nice hot alcohol burn, very warming but not unpleasant. Loved it. 160512

2011 Vintage. 750mL bottle, pours pitch black with a thin tan head. Aroma of cocoa nibs upfront, vanilla beans, bourbon barrels, molasses - the liqueur notes are taken away by the cocoa and vanilla, hinting that the overly cloying sweetness of Black Tuesday will not be as present. Flavour confirms this, which, while being very similar to the flavour profile as Black Tuesday, is less cloying, with molasses, vanilla, dark fruits and lots of hot boozy bourbon. A lot more balanced than BT - not as cloying though still stupidly sweet. A diabetes bomb. Nasty boozy, cloyingly sweet ridiculousness. Overhyped and overrated. Most raters are on crack on this one.

"CHOCOLATE RAIN." Thanks for whoever was the guy who brought this one on by. This was a boozy, vanilla, chocolate syrup smelling beer. Poured a medium dark, close to black but not quite, color with a tan head. Flavor was about the same, heavy chocolate notes (milk chocolate, not chocolate malts) with a vanilla extract note. Alcohol is most certainly there, boozy, but not terribly boozy like some high ABV beers I’ve had. Glad I tried it, but... there’s no way this can be consumed with any less than 6 people.

75cl Bottle at AHBS. Black, brown head. Aroma of chocolate sprinkles, coffee, moccha, hard roasted malts, bourbon, cocoa, vanilla, coconut. Flavour is sweet, cocoa, chocolate, vanilla, coconut, cognac and bourbon, hard roasted malts, coffee, more chocolate, light bitter finish with a little booze. Fullbodied, thick fat mouthfeel. Great and glorious stuff.
