Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with cacao nibs and vanilla beans

The reign of Black Tuesday was destined to grow with the creation of Chocolate Rain. This decidedly decadent version of our bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout was treated with TCHO cacao nibs and juicy, fresh vanilla beans. Rich in chocolate and vanilla, with hints of oak, it truly puts the “imperial” in imperial stout.

Bottle share at DLD. Creamy chocolate, light coffee, molasses, and prune aroma. Murky brown with a small tan head. Creamy sweet chocolate, brown sugar, light coffee flavor. Full creamy body, light carbonation. A big thanks to the guys from LRBeer who shared this one.

Bottle at Stout 3 & Freestyle Tasting, thanks to Bruce. It pours dark brown with a minimal off-white head. The nose is pretty sweet....rich chocolate, caramel, fudge, coconut, vanilla, oak and brown sugar. The taste is chocolate gateaux, intense sweetness, roasted malt, sweet coffee, earth, wood, vanilla and alcohol warmth. Full body, light carbonation and thick, oily mouth-feel. Not a whole depth of flavour, just god damn sweet. Glad to try it, but I just don’t find it very drinkable.

Bottle at the Stouts Pt. III & Others Tasting - London. Thanks to Bruce for slaying this whale. Pours dark, red-brown with barely any head, just a bit of beige cream. Lots of chocolate syrup in the nose, plenty of toasted sugars, heavy bread, so,e cake, light vanilla. Hugely sweet flavor, lots of sugary dark chocolate, plenty of boozy sting, maple syrup, chocolate cake. Supremely full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Hot finish, plenty more heavy sugars, rich chocolate cake, mild vanilla, cocoa powder, moderate earthy bitterness. It is damn, damn heavy stuff, but in its way it is quite enjoyable. Enjoy it the way you would a dessert wine.

Opaque black - brown beer. Small dark tan head. Nice chocolate nose! Crispy palate, semi dry. Rich chocolate! A mixture of dark chocolate but with a good dose of mild chocolate. Brandy like alcohol underneath provides mild warmth and dryness. Left some aside for a week and the alcohol really calmed down leaving a lovely chocolate that tastes like a fine bar of Green and Blacks!

‘11-shared by a generous person @CCB Black Friday-thin brown-black. A-roasty dark malt, chocolate brownie. T- roasty dark malt, chocolate brownie, some earthy hops. A bit softer than the ’12 is currently.

Shared tonight with several friends. Pours an inky black without much of a head that musters but dissipates quickly. The aroma from this glass is heavenly. Deep rich caramel and chocolate with hints of brownie batter, roast, vanilla and a fair amount of alcohol. You can tell this is high in abv from the aroma, but it never seems harsh. The flavor follows the aroma but the alcohol is a bit more evident but it really never harsh. Rich chocolate, vanilla, roast, caramel, and molasses flavors melded into a high abv sipper. This would be an excellent brew to sip with a few friends on a cold night with some cigars or brownies. Thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. I/we enjoyed the hell out of this beer tonight, too bad I may never see another bottle of this!

Bottle shared at Wood Shop 7, 2012. Dirty, brownish-black. Big, barrel-aged nose, lots of vanilla and chocolate, some berry. Very sweet flavor, chocolaty, vanilla. Straight-out sweet—not much roasted flavors going on. Nice, but a little over the top.

Clear black colour, reddish hue, no head (some floating bubbles). Aroma of dark chocolate, alcohol, roasted malts, tomato paste, coffee, dark fruits, vanilla, wood and burned malts. Slightly sweet flavour, milk chocolate, alcohol, cacao, slight roasted malts bitterness. Very full body, creamy texture, finish chocolate and alcohol.
Hefty. Brilliant dessert beer, which I’d recommend to enjoy in small portions.

Batch 1 bottle shared at the Woodshop 7 tasting. Compared to the regular Black Tuesday, I prefer this one a lot. The apperance isn’t really any different from most huge stouts: Black, minimal tan head and lots of lacing. Aroma has lots of vanilla and deep chocolate notes but also some bourbon and light oxidation. The huge booze punch I was expecting didn’t hit me at all. Taste is very sweet but it plays well together with the vanilla and the oak. Lots of chocolate as well. Full bodied with low carbonation and really viscous mouthfeel. Really delicious.

75cl bottle @ ZZT IV. Pitch black color, no head, slight light beige lacing. Smell malts, alcohol, chocolate. Taste malts, roasted malts, chocolate, alcohol, slightly bitter. Perfect dessert-beer. Medium carbo, full body, too much alcohol. Good beer, heavy beer, but I think it’s just too much. For me it’s just over the edge.
