Kriek is our variation of the classic Belgian style. This beer was aged in Cabernet barrels for 2 years with sweet cherries and a blend of wild yeast and bacteria. Kriek has a bold cherry aroma with hints of oak and a strong tart finish. This beer pours pink in color with a thin white head.

Sample at Beer Meets Wood on 09/23/2017. Reddish pour with pink around the edges, and a medium thin pinkish-white head that evaporates quickly to a film. Short strings of lace. Cherry, yeast and malt aroma. Medium body with flavors of tart cherry, herbal yeast and biscuit malt. The finish is moderately tart with a cherry aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Draught at Branchline, 6/19/17.
Deep, cranberry-black cherry-hued red shows light-to-minimal haze and a medium-sized, pink-tinged, beige head showing moderate retention for the style.
Tart cherries in the nose provide good tannin and lots of black pepper-like character. There’s a healthy blend of both lactic and Brett acidity with a somewhat strong, nutty/biscuity malt/wheat backing. A touch of saccharine-like sweetness, though maybe that’s just residual cherry sugar? Not sure, but it definitely dampens the otherwise clean, flawless nose. Low acetic character and no toasted oak, though quite a bit of wine lurking in there. Lacking a bit of richness and depth, and the cherries stand a bit too much apart from the beer yet, while there’s a lot of wine that seems not very well-integrated either.
Quite sour in the mouth, with tons of pepper/spice notes from the cherries. Wine is quite evident though I wouldn’t say overdone. Tight carbonation is a highlight and the malt shows good attenuation, if perhaps lacking a bit of malty depth. Tannin from cherry, grape and wood helps recoup some of this and though there’s a bit of a surplus of grape and acetic acid on the finish, it’s not unbearable or problematic. Has a lot of really nice elements, but doesn’t seem to have congealed completely yet. Maybe another six months or a year would help.

Cherry, grapefruit. Pours reddish with good head and lacing. Alright like Matthew McConaughey in Dazed and Confused. Tangy finish. Tap at Savor.

Draft pour at Savor: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience 2017. Poured a red color with a small pink head. Aroma was lots of cherries. Fruity notes, light dusty notes. Not a lot of vinous notes, but I suppose it’s there somewhere - light tart finish.
