This special bottling of Innis&Gunn has been matured in rare oak barrels from a famous distillery in Ireland. These barrels had been used to mature one of the great triple distilled Irish whiskeys. The result of this unique maturation is a big, full flavoured, complex beer with a delightful warming finish.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with medium offwhite head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt and dried fruit. Taste is medium sweet and medium to light bitter. Body is milky with soft carbonation. Finish is long with notes that follow the nose.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe - Pours a thick black, with a foamy beige top. The nose is chocolate, sweet treacle and coffee. Can’t pick up the whiskey as I’d expected, compared to the I&G rum versions, but there seems to be a boozy sweetness that goes all the way through this. A good beer, but nowhere near my favourite from Innis and Gunn.

Poured from 330mL bottle. Dark reddish brown with dissipating beige head. Coffee aroma with hints of caramel and whiskey. The whiskey really comes through in the flavour along with sweet malt and some bitterness from the coffee flavour and a hint of vanilla. Oily texture, virtually no carbonation.

Opaque black - brown beer. Big fluffy pale tan head. Nose of lactose malt and spicy bubblegum. Smooth palate, airy and dry. Mild minerals. Bubblegum ester, a little spicy. Mild lactose. Trace of citrus and a whisper of dark fruits. Not really getting any whisky! Caramel. A bit dry and estery to be anything other than passable.

Bottle at home. Pours a deep dark nut brown colour with a light beige medium head. Roasted and sweet aroma with rye, lactose, coffee and chcocolate truffels. Pleasant. Much of the same but here the oak is more pronouned, and with nice roasted tones in the end. Smooth and slick mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A nice roasted stout, but the whisky is not very present.

Bottle. Pours cloudy dark brown with small tan head. Dark aroma of malt, caramel and coffee beans. Sweetish flavour of malt and caramel with touches of dark chocolate and coffee. Coffeelike finish. Well-balanced and pleasant. A good’un.

Bottle at the Deanso’s monthly RB tasting, July 2013. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is rich sweet and alcoholic. The flavour is weak bitter, oaky, a little rich and with some sweetness on the palate. The whisky isn’t overpowering. The texture is rather creamy too. Very drinkable. Not sure I could drink a lot of this stuff though,
