This special bottling of Innis&Gunn has been matured in rare oak barrels from a famous distillery in Ireland. These barrels had been used to mature one of the great triple distilled Irish whiskeys. The result of this unique maturation is a big, full flavoured, complex beer with a delightful warming finish.

Draught @ Brass Monkey. Inky black with small creamy dark beige head, slight whiskey aroma, thin body, medium carbonation, caramel taste with whiskey undertones, medium finish with coffee aftertaste. Smooth and easy to drink.

330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Langnes. Rocky, tan-coloured head that stayed well and left spotty lacing down the glass. Jet black coloured body in the glass. Smell of oak layered with caramel. Dark malty flavours with hints of caramel and chocolate on with a backdrop of oak vanilla. Dried fruity endnotes. Hidden alcohol. Smooth in the mouth. Nice, however rather unvaried and a tad too sweet (Tromsø 15.11.2014).

Clear 330ml bottle into a Gordon’s thistle shaped glass on 9th May 2014. Labelled as ’Irish Whiskey Finish’, sure it’s the same beer though. Looked good: black with a large and lasting tan head. I got more over roasted maltiness in the aroma and taste than any whiskey/whisky notes, Irish or not. A decent enough Stout, even if the hype and labelling suggests something more. Bitter Dark Chocolate with Coffee notes helped the enjoyment of the beer. One of I&G’s better offerings.

Draft at World of Beer, Fort Myers. Poured a dark brown color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was some chocolate and toasted malts, some oak notes, and a bit of booze. Flavor was roasted, toasted notes, smooth whiskey character comes out. First sip was actually all that pleasant, but subsequent sips were quite enjoyable. Creamy, enjoyable.

330ml bottle from Tesco. An opaque mahogany pour with a tight beige head; oaky vanilla aroma; smooth, creamy, stout-like body , with a fruity taste and lots of oak; leading to a dry vanilla finish with some warmth from the alcohol. A not very successful attempt at combining stout with whiskey cask.

330ml bottle from Appellation Wines, Dalry. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aromas of coffee and chocolate, prunes in alcohol, light whisky note. Taste has a slightly sweet finish, but is surprisingly good. One of their best.

0.33l clear bottle. Not that I've had a coke for the last 10 years, but this looks just like that in the glass. Dark deep brown with a nice medium dark head. Lots of dark deep sweetness on the nose. Burned sugar, dark malts, a little bit of chocolate and chocolate paper, some smoky hints and toffee. Smells quite nice actually. Doesn't taste bad either with lots of licorice, burned sugar and dark sticky malts. It has a light oily mouthfeel with a average carbonation level. Yeah, it's definitely on the sweet side but hey, it's a Innis & Gunn... Can't really sence any whiskey before I get a slightly salty licorice and smoky hint in the aftertaste. Normally not the biggest fan of this brewer, but this was not all that bad. 19.07.2013
