On tap at Hops, Crewe (but have drunk it before). Pours almost black with a medium sized foamy tan head and good lacing. The aroma is a somewhat curious mix of malts, molasses, chocolate and earth. In the mouth it is mainly sweet but with some bitter and sharp hints and a creamy texture. Flavour has roasted malts, coffee and hints of citrus. Some floral hops too which gradually increase leading to a slightly dry finish. This is rather nice ! Lots of complexity and hides its strength well.

Draught from el tigre. Super dark pour with handsome white head. Dark malt taste but the hops take over quick. Good

Bottle at the mondiale 2014. Dark brown, almost black pour, beige rocky head. Aroma of coffee, roasted but not too roasted malts, and some subtle pine hops, with light citrus notes. Soft carb, light mouth feel. Medium bitterness, solid roast and piney resins. A nice example of the style.

12/7/2021. Keg at the Thornbridge Brewery Tap. Pours clear dark mahogany brown with a small bubbly beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, citrus, pine, dark fruits/berries, caramac bar. Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Medium body, smooth texture, average to soft carbonation. Nice bitterness to finish, with an ashy edge. Enjoyed this. Restores my faith in the style after some recent patchy experiences.

440 ml can. Dark brown with a foamy head. Pine, roasted toasted malt, dark chocolate, grapefruit, toffee, dark bread, tobacco, hints of vanilla. Hoppy bitterness. Full bodied, oily texture, soft to lively carbonated, dry hoppy bitter roasty finish. Really nice, very smooth and full bodied, very balanced.
