The Passion of Johann was inspired by a true tale of love, a tale as old as time, that eventually led to one of the family marriages. Drew went on vacation with Georgia and was convinced by a local peddler to try an alleged aphrodisiac. Turns out, he had an awful allergic reaction to a rare shellfish oil. But man, he did some passionate porcelain love making that night!
This inspired us to make a beer based on the allusion of an aphrodisiac. And what better than the Passion Fruit!
The Passion of Johann is a Double IPA fermented with our house yeast, which produces stone fruit esters. We then ferment the base beer on many lbs of Passion Fruit & Madagascar Vanilla and dry hop with Citra.

Can into a snifter showing hazy cloudy passion fruit orange with no head. The nose shows a strong vanilla background with light notes of passion fruit. The palate is full bodied and mildly carbonated. Flavors of light passion fruit with a strong vanilla sweetness. Prickly acidity throughout.

16oz can pours a very muddy orange with some sticky, white head. Nose has plenty of passion fruit, a Belgian Strong Ale character I didn’t expect, alcohol notes, lemon, green grape. Flavor has lemon curd, passion fruit, the vanilla is here in a pleasant custard-y way, mango, tropical fruits. Finishes full bodied, creamy, tart, a touch boozy. Quite unique. Straddles styles.

5oz draft pour at Aslin. Poured a very hazy, golden milkshake color with a small, creamy, vibrant white head. Aroma was nice light juicy hops, passion fruit. Vanilla notes are there. Flavor was subtle, well masked, very tasty.
