The Passion of Johann was inspired by a true tale of love, a tale as old as time, that eventually led to one of the family marriages. Drew went on vacation with Georgia and was convinced by a local peddler to try an alleged aphrodisiac. Turns out, he had an awful allergic reaction to a rare shellfish oil. But man, he did some passionate porcelain love making that night!

This inspired us to make a beer based on the allusion of an aphrodisiac. And what better than the Passion Fruit!

The Passion of Johann is a Double IPA fermented with our house yeast, which produces stone fruit esters. We then ferment the base beer on many lbs of Passion Fruit & Madagascar Vanilla and dry hop with Citra.

From a pint can. Pours a murky orange brown with a small off white head. Aromas of passion fruit and pineapple. Flavors are dank hay.

Can at Kev's, cheers. Pours murky dark yellow with a white cap. Aroma: tropical citrus sorbet vibes, lactose. Taste: moderate to heavy sweet & light bitter, tangy sharp fruit, citrus. Medium to full body with tight carbonation. Not particularly well balanced.

Vanilla is overpowering. Reminds me of bubble gum, or even cotton candy.

Pours a very hazy, bright, orange-cantaloupe, with minimal head. Strong aroma of passionfruit, citrus, sour washcloth, some vanilla. Flavor is vanilla, passionfruit, citrus, a touch of pine/spruce hops. Slightly sweet. Has a fairly bitter finish for being otherwise quite smooth. Not bad at all.

From the brewery: pours deep orange haze. Aroma is passionfruit, sugarcake, and vanilla. Taste is super sweet, fruity, sweet... wow so sweet. This is the sweetest IPA I have ever had. Tooooooo much.

Hazy orange. Lemon, orange sherbet, sweet fruits, tropical notes, boozy tinge. Medium bodied. Finish is citrus. Nice.

Can, shared round at Jeff’s. Super hazy, dark yellow. Film of white. Nose has a bonkers, lemon sorbet and orange ice cream thing going on. Creamy oats. Passion fruit and pineapple milkshake. Taste is creamy sweet, with a not too well balanced, citrus bitterness. Mouthfeel is maybe a little harsh and tangy bitter. Bitterness builds on the finish. Doesn’t feel the ABV, but it’s not one I could do more than a small measure of.

Lots of passionfruit and vanilla like a mixed ice cream cone. Hazy orange pour with good head and lacing. Bean type vegetable finish but light. Better than a bigger broat. Bittersweet and tangy. Tap at Churchkey.
