Butty Bach is a Welsh term meaning ‘little friend’ – and this charmingly smooth premium ale has certainly made more than a few friendships in its time. We brew it using Maris Otter and Crystal malts together with locally grown Fuggles, Goldings and Bramling Cross hops. With such fine ingredients, no wonder it remains a firm favourite.

Bottle from ASDA, Sheerwater....knew today's guest was more of a trad ale man. Aroma has carmal and dough with a citrus edge. Light brown. Frothy foamy white head. Flavour is led by caramel. A bitter woody edge. A hint of citrus. Light-medium bodied. Soft carbonation. Long finish. Nice enough.

Bottle, gift from Tom. Clear amber body with an off-white head. Low carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of butterscotch and lightly roasted malt. Flavour of cereal and bread. Thin body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. There’s not much to report here, the flavour is very weak.

Bottle from Asda. Bronze amber with a medium head. Strange nose. Malty, spicy hop, buttery, creamy. Flavor is much more pleasant. Spicy hops, caramel, estery fruit. Ok bitter with a strange aroma.

Clear and golden with a frothy white head and a sweet biscuit malt aroma, with floral hints too. Very slightly grainy mouthfeel, there are fruity and floral notes on top of a sweet biscuit malt backbone, and hint of bitterness in the finish
