Hoppy Belgian-Style Ale
Mischief is a hoppy Belgian-style golden strong ale. This wickedly good golden ale is fiendishly dry-hopped with American hops to add a layer of complexity and mystery to its fruity, dry Belgian-style character. Citrus and resin diabolically combine with ripe melon, pear and slight peppery spice in a precariously effervescent mixture. Enjoy it, but you’ll want to keep an eye out.

Orange and lime nose. Clear golden, effervescent, medium head. Grapefruit peel flavor, fairly wellhopped. Noticeable alcohol. Decent, but relatively pricy for what it is.

Pours hazy dark golden color with big white head. Big citrus hop aroma. Citrus flavor with some pine and caramel. Very IPA-like flavor. Medium body with lively carbonation. Drink this one fresh if you’ve got it.

Bottle, home. Nice beer, somewhere between a BIPA and a Belgian Strong Ale. Good looking beer. Hazy yellow gold with a big white head. Lots of lacing. Yeasty, honey-ish, floral aroma. There’s a lot going on in the aroma. The malt smells of honey and sugar cane, the hops are sweet and floral, and the yeast is earthy and dry. Very good combination. The flavor starts sweet and fades to a yeasty dryness. Good Belgian character. Mild hop bite. A bit of a off-note from the grain but not bad. The yeast makes the mouthfeel a bit funny. It’s a bit much. Still, a good, interesting Belgian-style beer from The Bruery.

Pours deep gold into a snifter. Bright white head quickly recedes to hug rim. Lemon and resin aromas. Sweet grass and citrus upfront turning to grapefruit in the lasting dusty finish. Alcohol is well-hidden.

750ml bottle - sexy-looking label - pours a cloudy golden with a thick, lasting head - very hoppy nose, with some pale malt sweetness, some biscuity character - there is a pronounced alcohol character in the back - soft carbonation, weak mouthfeel - the flavor is mostly peppery, spicy hops, with some earthiness and some grassy flavors - a little too sweet and a little too hot - hoppy belgian ales need a crispness and dryness that this beer lacks - the weak malt structure doesn’t provide enough for those hops to hold on to - I was excited about this, considering the quality of their saisons, but this one is lacking.

Tap @ OTH. Pours cloudy golden, white head. Aroma is hoppy, lemongrass and spices. Piney hops, yeasty aroma. Hard to describe the tantalizing goodness of hops, lots of freshness in this one. Flavor, dry hopping is amazing. Drinks like a Belgian IPA. Belgian yeast palate with some spices and piney hops, wheat and a mild malty touch in the background. At 8.5% this beer is smooth and complex. Keeps a fresh lemongrass and citrus fruit finish, clean dry hopped aftertaste.

750 with very nice looking label pouring up clear deep gold with copper hues and one inch off white head. The aroma has sweet notes of orange and grapefruit blending into Belgian yeasty spices and ripe red apples. The taste is smooth and refreshing where assertive orange and grapefruit hop flavor take center stage with modest levels of yeasty spice and ripe red apples carve out a pleasing supporting role. I get no sense of the ABV. I’m not a Belgian IPA style fan unless it is way IPA like this one. Very tasty brew with lots of apple and citrus flavor and almost no hop bitterness.

750 ml bottle courtesy of Tarheels86 - thank you sir! Murky orange color, thick white head that lasts, good lacing. Aroma of fresh hops and citrus. Massive body, nice hop profile, not over-the-top, lemony toward the middle, gentle bitter finish. A winner.
