Smaak blijft lekker hangen.

I acquired a 375 ml bottle of Batch #8 at the Santa Fe, NM Total Wine a few days ago. Hoping that it was not a mistake, I opened a Batch 13 this past summer and it had oxidized. So this is a roll of the dice, would not have done it if I did not like quadrupels as much as I do. I lift the cage and the cork, ah, no pop, no fizz. The taste, well, I'm sure it was good at one time. There is some of the caramel and wheat bread remaining but overall, nothing. Unfortunate but I tried.

Corked bottle. Dark amber color. Peat and new oak pushing away all other malt and tropical fruit aromas. Malty sweet flavor with dried tropical fruit and peach, before the peat kicks in with violence. The peat seems to linger on forever, next to the dried fruit. The new oak is clearly noticeable. Top class beer.

Refrigerated 375 cL brown bottle corked and capped poured into a Trappist glass. Don’t know why I bought this one. Dark brown with no head. Aroma is dark fruit, medium body, no carbonation, and no lacing. Taste is oak, whiskey, and a little dark fruit. Expected this would be quite a bit better.

Note: after hoarding the oldest of these beers for over 5 years, I decided to crack down on them, before they disintegrate.
Clear red brown beer, no head. Aroma: soft peat, sweet, caramel, sugary touch. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: peated start, bit sourish, some chocolate, caramel, leathery. Aftertaste: bit oxidized, sweet touch, some honey, alcohol.

Bottle at Bitter Creek Alehouse. Plastic cork, difficult to remove, but worth the wait. Silky smooth pour, murky brown body, no head. Aroma of wood, whiskey and pit fruit. Taste follows with a little bit of smoke on top of the oak and fruit. Well blended and well aged. Worth seeking out.
