Bottle picked up from a REWE supermarket in Koln, Germany, consumed at home Thursday 3rd April 2014 This was quite an average Kolsch amongst the many that I’d had over the last week. Looks good, pours clear gold, with a white head, a bit too sweet with only the lightest citrussy bitter bite, fine. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Catch up rating. Pours a perfectly transparent gold with a nice white head. Little retention and little lacing. Smells of hops and pils up front, with a hint of citric sweetness also. The taste is very similar, with the hops dominating, but a bit of sweet citrus in the background. Very good; more to it than other kölsches. Medium bodied with good carbonation.

50cl bottle pick up while visiting Bierzwerg bottle shop where the label also states “#31 Hohenhaus” interestingly enough. It pours into a tall 15cl sort of “bigger” Kolsch glass with a crystal clear pale gold body that supports a decent nearly bright white head. The aroma offers up sweet soft malts and then very light notes of grainy malts, floral hops and vague faint citrus and pineapple like hops. The taste quickly seems not nearly crisp and snappy enough for the style as it is initially weighed down by a bit too much sweet maltiness.

0.5l bottle. Clear pale golden body, white head. Light grainy aroma. Bread, grains and some sourness in the taste. Watery mouthfeel. Not much in it for me.

Draught in Cologne, April, 2013. A good looking kolsch. Dark gold color and a good sized, lacing head. Malt aroma and flavor, but it is light and effervescent, and I would say slightly floral in character. Sweet grain finish.
