We shortly macerated organic apricots in our red-brown beer, meant as a more dry and vinous version of the classical red-brown beers of Flanders. This beer was aged on Pinot Noir barrels from Burgundy for sixteen months. Bottled August 2019.

EB. Apricots both adds a very nice fruit profile that suits the beer but also elevated the acidity making it a hint too sour for me.

Pours dark, caramellybrown. Small white head. Smell is full, fruity, bit 'glue'ish. Mild darker malts, mild tartness. Taste is full, oaky, fruity, bit dry, mild sweetness, glue aspect is much less, apricot not simply recognizable. Nice one all together though.

Oud bruin with apricots from what seems to be Belgium’s biggest hype of the moment at least among beer geeks, tasted at Wild in Groningen. Pale greyish beige, quickly opening, shred-lacing, irregular head on a misty ruddy-brown beer with amberish tinge. Aroma of unripe apricots rather than the more familiar ripe apricot smell (and therefore not immediately recognizable as being apricot), apricot kernels, redcurrant, dry red wine hint, sherry vinegar, grape skins, sour yoghurt, peaches, moldy walnut shells, damp earth. Estery, sour onset, apricot providing much more sourness and astringency than soothing sweetness, redcurrant, lemon and sour apple hints, walnutty and ‘woody’, bit caramelly malt body, bread crust-like edges all dried by a strong lactic sour current and persisting fruit acidity, with an earthy, wry, astringent finish, tannic from both wood and apricots, with that strong acidity continuing. Very astringent, tannic and somewhat ‘dirty’ interpretation of a fruited oud bruin, reminiscent a bit of Verzet’s fruit beers, albeit less sharply acidic; very tart still, but complex and interesting as a concept. Gives me a rough impression of what their regular oud bruin (‘L’Obscur’) is like, too, because Antidoot bottles are notoriously difficult to come by – thanks to all that hype.

Sampled at Wild Festival Groningen. Hazy brown with beige head. Dried apricots, soft funk, sour grains in a lemon sour kind of way, soft toffee but not in a sweet way. Quite sour, light sweet and bitter. Medium bodied.
