Did we choose the name Elephant to honour the statues that guard our brewery gates, or because it's a beer you'll remember forever? Pale gold in colour, Elephant is rich in malty character, with a hint of caramel, balanced by a satisfyingly dry bitterness. Once enjoyed, never forgotten!

Bottle. Pour is a yellowish color with just a touch of a head and an aroma that reminds me of a highly alcohol filled version of Heineken. Skunky hops and a bit of alcohol. Flavor is not good. Alcohol is poorly hidden and comes off as paint thinner and hops skunk flavor comes through strong and bits a bit. Additionally, there is a nasty sweetness that is like corn syrup in the mix. Blech!

Not too bad. A small, creamy head covering a yellow body with decent retention and pretty good lacing. A very odd smell: dank marijuana with some alcohol and fruit. Alcohol is evident in the taste and not well hidden. There is some grass as well in the background. Fizzy bubbles cover a slightly creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle. Slightly hazy gold with no head. Somewhat hoppy aroma, but nothing special. Medium body and carbonation. Flavour has some maltiness with prhaps a hint of fruit. There is a fairly strong alcohol taste and a longish somewhat bitter finish. It did not live up to my expectations (or long distant memories). It’s not bad, but disappointing.

Bottle. Poured hazy deep gold with thick white head. Aroma of malt and sulphur. Flavour of malt, boiled celery and cauliflower. Lingering finish of pepper and alcohol. I admit I approached this with trepidation, as many years ago I regarded this as the best beer in the world. Now I find that it’s no longer to my taste. I would not drink this again.

50 cL bottle. Pours golden yellow to orange with a quickly disappearing white head. Sweet malty aroma. Soft mouthfeel. Almost raisin sweet flavour. Nice sweet finish. Very well made but has to be served at max 10 C otherwise it gets cloying.

300 ml green bottle, "Best Before 20712708." Again, why an elephant? As a reminder of Danish colonialism in Afric... wait, that’s Greenland. More fitting picture would be a skunk, that’s the first thing I smell. Then wet skunk once poured. Admittedly nice golden pils type color in a glass tumbler, with a scrummy malt liquor head. Taste of fizzy rubbing alcohol mixed with corn syrup. Just unpleasant. Mediciney finish. There are so many better 7% beers out there. Can any Danish raters offer a trade for their good stuff? All we get here is Carlsberg and Tuborg! Loose bottle from Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove.
