Two-tone, toe-tapping, ten-malt-porter. Monstrous amounts of fresh malts create a beer as black as the earl of hell to which some big piney hops are added to give a robust bitter finish. Quite often this beer can be aged in a barrel with some varying special ingredient.

Malts: Maris Otter, Munich, Crystal, Wheat, Oats, Flaked Barley, Melanoiden, Roast Barley, Chocolate, Carafa III
Hops: Simcoe, Chinook, Columbus

Bottle. Black body with a beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of coffee, malt, cranberry and plum. Flavour of malt, chocolate, blueberry and coffee. Medium body with a slick body. Soft fizz. A really well made Porter with a nice depth. An excellent beer from one of Scotland’s best, most consistent (and most underrated) breweries.

Bottiglia.

The last of my beers picked up in Wales while touring through the country last month. 330 ml bottle, now opened and headed into a snifter. Closer to black than to brown but use your imagination. An almost non-existent head, tan what there is. I smell ash and chocolate. The taste matches the nose along with some scorched bread and perhaps plums. Thin. Just not feeling it.
