A splendid, maroon-coloured beer with fine aromas of spiced fruit, orange peel and well-roasted malt to delight the nose. The flavour is a spicy balance of caramel, citrus and slightly bitter hops to restore that warm feeling during the dark days of winter. If stored in a cool, dark place, IJndejaars will keep for years.

On tap at ‘t IJ, pours a clear chestnut orangey brown with a small beige head. Aroma is quite malty, with toasted bready malt, a little caramel, and light spiciness. Flavour is spicy and sweet, with caramel, bready malt and a hint of spiciness. Very sweet, near-cloying. Not my thing.

Aroma has honey, blackcurrant, nutmeg and mango. Also honey, nutmeg, cinnamon, alcohol and butter in the flavor. Too alcoholic, lacks the body and buttery sweetness of other IJ-beers. 2004 version, tasted december 2004. malty aroma with licorice. Full bodied, in fact thick. Overwhelming licorice flavor with just a hint of roasted malt. Hints of mint in the aftertaste. Tastes fairly good, but lacks balance 7 3 7 2 13 =3.2

Fles gedeeld door Roelzie. Het is een amberkleurig bier met een beige schuim. De geur is moutig en wat gistachtig. De smaak is gistachtig, wat zoet en een beetje fruitig.

20 December 2018. From tap at Café Frappé, Maastricht. Shared with Anke. Pours hazy amber with a lasting, big, frothy, off-white head; lots of lacing. Aroma of hand soap, perfume by extent, orange peel, honey, lavender, almond, caramel, raisin, cookie dough. Taste is medium fruity sweet, notes of raisin, plum & orange (peel), some caramel & honey; light herbal bitterness brings this into balance with cookie spices & green tea, meanwhile a perfumed & soapy effect comes into play, whilst a faintly lemony & even wheaty sourness pops up in the back. Dryish, herbal hoppy finish, lingering spices, orange peel, caramel, and quite subtle warming herbal liqueur alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Easy 'big' beer that does not demand too much of the drinker.
