Troubadour Imperial Stout is a real Imperial Stout, but with a Belgian twist. The beer is almost black and has a solid crème coloured head. It is a powerful beer with strong roasted fragrances. You can taste notes of chocolate, toffee and coffee, followed by a bitter aftertaste.

Clear very dark brown to black beer, creamy beige head, stable, adhesive. Aroma: fruity hops, mocha, caramel, little bitter, milk chocolate. MF: good carbon, full body. Taste: pretty fruity start, mocha, chocolate, cocoa powder, dried fruits. Aftertaste: nice bitter hops, coffee. Very nice chocolaty impression. Was paired with a heavy chocolate cake and a whiskey custard sauce.

Bottle @ Ulfborg, Early Winter Tasting, 2011. Bought @ Vinens Verden, Odense. Pours dark brown with a creamy large head and lacings. Fruit, vague roast and coffee. A bit of caramel and fruit again. Smooth and full bodied. Alcohol well hidden!

Bottle, 75cl. A big, dense, beige head sits on top of a slightly unclear, reddish dark brown body. Well, actually more red than brown. Some lacings. A bit weak on the nose, with roasted malts and some chocolate notes. A little touch of sourness in the flavor, along with a nice hoppy bitterness, and flavors of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Full-bodied and quite dry. A quite pleasant and tasteful beer, not the usual imperial stout, but it’s nice. 111105

Stupendous, towering beige-brown head, very dense and fine-bubbled, slowly collapsing with textbook lace over brown-black beer. Alcoholic-roasted nose, bit nutty, coffeeish; bitter chocolate and green-leafy touches; toast gone too long. Surprising initial taste of cucumber (greenmalt?) or parsley; then the burnt/roasted coffeeflavours take over. Something salty too, smoked herring. Warming up, alcoholic sweetness emerging. Medium to well-bodied, very grist slick with a touch of oil, belated alcoholwarming. Doesn’t seem really balanced, might need more ripening. Whatever, IMO the Magma and Speciale remain unparallelled in Ursel.
