Rook & Vuur is a subtle balance between smoke, chocolate and chili peppers. Although it has a large complexity it is still surprisingly easy to drink. Try combining this beer with a young Gouda cheese and treat yourself. Flavor indication: Chocolate, chili, smoke Translates as Smoke & Fire

Bottle at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green - 30/09/12. Extremely dark chestnut brown approaching black with a big dirty mocha head. Big smokey nose, smoked gammon and meats, you can just pick out the dark malts behind the wall of rausch! Taste follows nose, dominated by the smoke, dark fruits and a boozy finish. High end of medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a dry smokey finish.

had this in a 33 cl bottle at home ( ordered from biernavigatie.nl, thnx for the tip dennoman ) i wasnt expecting this. just ordered a lot of beers from the molen to try and taste em. never heard of a ’smoke beer’ before.. maybe its becouse i dont smoke, but its totaly not my thing ! i can best explain what i taste trough this : it pours black , but not helish black like some stouts. it has a big foam ( houldnt have used a corsendonck glass, maybe ? ) and it smells.. smokey? i’m having a bit trouble describing the taste, there is almost none.. whan you swallow it it kinda vaporates in your troat, wich caused me to almost believe that if i’d open my mouth, smoke would come out ! its like someone is burning wood and you’re breathing that smoke ! than it kinda gets over into a barbeque smoke ( same story, different smoke? ) then comes the third one . i dont know what this is, dont recognize it ( maybe cigares, sigarettes? honoustley cant tell and maybe im totaly wrong about this ) to than go away slowley. this process almost takes a minute ( aftertastes ) i’m realy happy to have had the chance to drank this, i think its one of the nices ’tricks’ ever done in beer, but i did give it a light score, becouse, well, one sip is enough. in a lifetime. ( accept for the actual fans of this kind of beer ) i’d try to drink more quickley but i couldnt. i was alone, so for the first ( hopefully last) time ever, i draind a beer i have respect for. to bad that you cant ’re-close’ this to let other people have a taste. definetley open with enough friends, i think 5 cl each is more than enough ! very nice effects, but to bad its nearley undrinkable ...

330ml Bottle (Thanks Konstifik) - Dark brown in colour. Smoked malt, dried fruit and spice in the aroma. The taste is fruity, chocolatey and smoky. The chilli peppers seem a bit subdued compared to what I was anticipating, but they are definitely noticeable, especially in the slightly warming finish.

75 cl bottle, bottled 02/2011, bottle number 361. Poured black with brown head. Aroma has sweet fruity notes, from chili? As well as light smoke. Flavor is sour, light smokoe and house flavor. Probably a bad bottle, very funky, sour and no peat, no chili at all.

75 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 31.12.2010
Aroma has smoke, sweetish malt, spices and vegetables. Flavour is peppery and spicy with some smoke and hints of vegetables. A bit messy and too peppery – and where is the chili?

Bottle, Chester Beer and Wine. Poured deep dark brown with a biiiig tan head. Aroma was suitably smoky with notes of roast and spice. Flavour was .roasted malts, dark fruit, peat and smoke. Didn’t really pick up on the chilli aspect..Really not my favourite style, but tolerably drinkable.

75cl from DeMolen biershop, bottled on 18/02/2011, #420/432. Brune, col moka.

14/IV/2012 - 75cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home - brewed: 20/I/11, bottled: 18/II/11 - bottle #413 (2012-377)
Clear red brown to dark brown beer, big aery light beige head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: rotten fruits, tobacco, dirty malts, puke, some caramel, bretta touch. Just plain nasty! MF: over carbonated, medium bodied. Taste: slightly sweet first, then vinegar sourness taking over, very sour, tobacco, rotten fruits, bitter as well, some smoke but very very faint. Aftertaste: sourness, nasty bitterness, really rancid. This is disgusting. De Molen keeps falling down my appreciation scale.
