0,33 l bottle from EDEKA Mohr, bottled on 6/5/2013. The label doesn’t mention any chilis by the way, but the beer is announced as a spiced stout. Clear, almost opaque, very dark reddish brown to black with a thin, soapy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Nice, intense aroma of plums, raisins, smoked ham and dark chocolate with hints of peat. Fruity-smoky taste of plums, raisins, dark cherries, smoked ham and dark chocolate, followed by a rather long, smoky, peated and slightly bitter finish with maybe minmal notes of chili. Medium to full body, smooth and creamy texture, flat. Very good brew that is extremely well-balanced. Although so much is going on, none of the flavours dominates or kills the other ones. I assume it benefited from the two years of aging.

Bottle at home, Black beer with a small head, aroma is smoke, Taste is smoke, some malt, hint of spices. Hmm not a big fan of smoked beers, and the chili isnt that outspoken, not bad but not awesome.

Les Fleurs du Malt, Lyon tap: Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is strong peat smoke and some dark chocolate. Taste is thick and smoky at first, but as your mouth gets used to it, the thick, slightly sweet maltiness comes through more. Quite complex, with a warm finish. Low carbonation. I didn’t get much chili.

Bottle (06/05/13) from Taniguchi. Smoky nose--big, with chocolate, bonito flakes, bacon, lightly spicy, lots of rich umami. Black with a thick, bubbly head. Rather sweet, smoky but less than the nose, wood, caramel, chocolate. A bit oxidized by now, berries and some peat. The the tingly chili pepper burn comes in. Bitter, hot finish, medium roast. Body is a bit light.

33cl bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Clear, very dark, reddy brown. Film of tan head. Savoury, ham smoke. Wood smoke. Caramel. Some dark, dried fruits. Mostly charred wood, though. Taste is caramel sweet. Earthy dry. Light, charred bitterness. Some chilli heat on the palate. Rich, and smooth mouthfeel. Finishes savoury, smoky dry, with a bittersweet close. I found this full, and rich, but I’m a bit of a wuss with these big, smoky beers. Bit much for me.

33 cl. bottle@ home, gift from Sinterklaas. Pitch black with a small quickly disappearing tan head. Aroma of smokey roasted malts but no trace of the chili peppers that must be in them. Not the fruity aroma nor the heat. Nice bitter sweet roasted taste.

33cl bottle. Black with very nice looking creamy beige head. Black berries, smoke, very earthy. Some tobacco, rye bread, sour cream and yoghurt. Light sweet with a hint of bitterness through the smoke, and a light sourness from beginning to end. Medium bodied with bit slick feel. Nice complex stuff, though it’s just slightly too sour and yoghurt for me. Also didn’t get any chili at all. Not sure if it’s supposed to be like this or if it’s a unwanted infection...

Botella de 75 cl numero 298 de 432 en el Lupulo, en el momento el 04-07-2012. elaborada 20-01-2011. embotellada 18-02-2011.Color negro con bastante espuma oscura al principio que se queda en casi nada hacia media botella. Sabores ácidos tipo saisson y brettanomyces que principio, en frío, que van disminuyendo a medida que calienta aunque siempre se mantienen presentes, ligeros toques de cacao y chocolate con maderas empapadas en licor de vinos blancos, solo al final y con casi temperatura ambiente se afloran las notas ahumadas y tostadas maltosas propias de una stout o porter. Ligeros toques de chile, flojos y no tan presentes como me gustaría Cuerpo medio con 8.2 vol bastante buenos y con un paso por boca bastante ligero y líquido mas parecido a un licor que a una cerveza. bien de gas, sobretodo al principio. Buena en general pero falta de mas ahumado y sabores maltosos espesos.
