XXV is brewed with dates, figs and cocoa nibs. 50% of the final blend was aged in bourbon barrels.
According to Brewmaster, Cam O’Connor, “we increased the bourbon barrel aged portion of this year’s by approximately 17%. We also soured a small portion (12%) of the final blend. We added Black Currant (12.5%) to this year’s 25 as well.”

Black with a small tan head. Aroma of coca powder. The flavor has bitter chocolate and roast malt. A bit of tartness with the sweetness reserved for the finish. Smooth.

Bottle. Pours clear black, medium tan head, slow to dissipate, good lacing. Aroma is roasty, hints of tartness, apparently from the berries? Oak tannins and a bit of cocoa, fruity for sure. Flavor is light sweet, hints of tartness, roast, berries. Not getting much bourbon influence here. Medium body.

650ml bottle, trade by Bob, shared at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Thanks Bob! Dark brown almost black color with beige head. Malty aroma, light roasted, bready, caramel, light buttery and soy sauce in the beginning before it gets warmer, later the dominant aromas are chocolate, wood, fruity. Sweet and bitter taste like the aroma, roasted malt, dark fruity chocolate, light alcoholic. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a very dark brown with medium frothy tan head that lasts leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is strong cocoa, dark fruits, currants. Medium mouth, nice roast, dark chocolate, cocoa, lingering dryness. Very good

22 ounce bottle into snifter, best after 6/10/2014. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toffee, dark bread, raisin, fig, date, molasses, tobacco, leather, oak, light smoke, light nuttiness, roast/oaky earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, dark fruits, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toffee, dark bread, raisin, fig, date, molasses, tobacco, leather, oak, light smoke, light nuttiness, and roast/oaky earthiness. Light amount of roasted bitterness and slight fruit tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toffee, dark bread, raisin, fig, date, molasses, tobacco, leather, light smoke/nuttiness, and roast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt, dark fruits, and bourbon barrel flavors; with an awesome malt/barrel/fruit balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and fairly slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible Barrel aged blended imperial porter! All around incredible complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, dark fruit, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle. Aroma is fairly chocolate forward with a balanced roast note in the background. Nice berry and cherry character with some prunes, raisins and figs as well. Some light oak and bourbon notes with medium light alcohol spice. Hints of anise. Pours black with a bit of dark brown highlights on the edges and a medium sized, moderately thick, dark tan head with average retention. Medium light lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with moderate chocolate and light roast character. Quite a bit of berry and dark fruit character including cherries, currants, figs, prunes and plums. The fruitiness adds a bit of sweetness mid palate. Some more light roast notes with light tobacco and leather. Moderate bitterness with light oak and medium light bourbon. Light alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with a bit of a slick, oily character and medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a really nice imperial porter with a ton of chocolate character and nice nice dark fruit and berry notes. Nice complexity with light bourbon and oak notes.

Bottle, Patiently enjoyed 2 months beyond the ‘best after’ date. A finger of creamy beige head atop a dark brown body… looks fantastic in my new Deschutes teku. At first, the nose resembles Abyss, but sweeter. A sugary-sweet, molasses, berries, and chocolate. Heavy roast in the taste, oak, cocoa, and currants. Picking up a little anise too. Good stuff, very rich. Thanks Jeremy for sending this over.
