Bottle from the St Peter’s Brewery. Poured ruby with a thin, off white head. Aroma of caramel, orange peal and malt; not particularly overpowering on the Christmassy wafts. Initial flavour was very bitter with notes of citrus rind, grass and what I could only describe as Christmas Tree... or what I guess it would taste like - that aroma wasn’t too noticeable, until I put it to my lips. Finish was nicer, with some dry grain, prunes and brown sugar.

Bottle. Brownish bronze beer with a relatively strong head. The aroma is lightly bitter, malty and vinous, and the flavour is very malty with gentle bitterness, burnt roasted’ness, and vinousness. Overall a nice malty, quite roasted, and mildly bitter English beer.

Bottle. Thanks Prowse. It’s a clear, amber to copper colored beer with a small, dense light beige head. There’s toffee and raisins on the nose, borderline oxidation, with a touch of of grass. It’s full bodied, lightly warming and with a nice level of carbonation. Mostly dried fruits in the flavor, with toffee, hints of sweetness and a nice bitterness lasting for some time. Quite dry towards the end. A pleasant one, far from complex, but tasteful. 140109

Coppery colour with an off-white head that quickly dissapears. Aroma has notes of toasted malts, caramel and spices. Flavor with hints of anise, slightly jinger and cardamom and sweet sirupy fruit, good maltiness with toasted hints. The final is mild sweet with a lot of spices.

Bottle from Tescos. Pours chestnut brown with a hint of red, flat with little carbonation and no head. Smells of chocolate covered cherries, treacle tart, astringency. Taste is wonderful: initially sweet without cloying, followed by a bittersweet finish and aftertaste. Full alcohol hit carries through. Great balance. Thin flat palate is a slight letdown.
