Dark brown, without much head. Definitely barrels, boozy, raisins, sort of a rich woody note. On the palate, strong bourbon notes, maybe cognac sort of notes too. Lots of wood, raisins, figs and that sort of dried fruit thing. Alcohol is prominent throughout.

22 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out deep dark fruits, with light burnt notes, and deep bourbon barrels. Flavour reveals deep dark fruits, toffee, burnt bread, and bourbon barrels. Love the burnt barrel character, finishing boozy and dark fruity. This is unusual, but excellent.

Waxed bomber from Bine & Vine. Pours very dark brown with a bright/light tan head. Aroma of dark treacle and dark fruit. The brain reels. Full bodied. Flavor is dark fruit, bourbon/vanilla, treacle and a definite touch of astringent wood. Chocolate notes emerge. It is far from dry, but bitter enough. Heat or bourbon or oak? Bitter. Really tasty ale.

Bomber. Costs 15.80 at ABV. Pours a very dark brown hue with a small beige head. A big malty fruity nose. Oak. Really rich, sweet, cocoa, round bursting fruit like coconut, chocolate, vanilla, more bourbon. Ends smooth, a thin palate. Very good.

Bomber from Homebrewstuff. Dark pour, almost black, thin collar of head. Bottom line: barleywine with a bit of extra roast. Aroma is burnt toast, coffee, cola, hint of booze. Taste offers light sweetness, roasty malts, molasses. Sweet, bitter, dry, warm.

I'd never heard of a black barley wine before. Alcohol aroma. Rich malty taste with cocoa, dried plums and vanilla. Chocolate malt finish
