A blend of beers aged in a mix of cognac, bourbon, and brandy barrels. Conditioned on Kenyan Thunguri coffee from our friends at Primer Coffee in Bellingham, Washington.

The blend was 40/40/20% bourbon/brandy/cognac barrel aged beers, respectively.

The whole concept behind Dual Process Theory was to attempt two different methods of extracting coffee flavour. The blend was first 'dry-beaned' with 5lb of freshly roasted beans. I determined that this extracted a potent aroma but the coffee flavour was less than I anticipated. After thinking a lot about espresso and pressure extraction, I elected to pack a large in-line tube strainer with an additional 5lb of beans, ground coarsely, which I then forced some of the beer through at a very high pressure. This experimental method produced a very potent extract of coffee flavours and brought balance to the final beer.

This blend contains 5.5% alcohol by volume. It was brewed for Hopwired Festival 2019 and made it's debut at that event on 2/23/19. It was voted Best Beer/Peoples Choice by attendees of the festival.

Tons of roast espresso notes. Cloudy gold with a decent white head. Coffee, soured notes and a long espresso finish. Nice.

On tap at Luppolo, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out the coffee upfront, which then transitions immediately to bourbon and brandy/cognac - very inviting. Flavour is bold and unusual, with lots of tart fruits, accentuated by the coffee, and rounded off the multifaceted barrel character. Seems like it could be chaos on paper, but this is executed very skillfully. Disparate flavours come together to forge a cohesive, tasteful beer. Very good.

Draught at Luppolo, Vancouver
Cloudy blond colour. Interesting aroma, coffee cookies, delicate baked goods. The acidity is sharp, but the coffee gently boosts the stone fruit character and gives purpose to the acidity.
Not a beer that I would drink much of, but a refreshing, dynamic and interesting one.

Taster. Appearance: hazy golden with a weak white head. Aroma: coffee with some bourbon and sour notes. Taste: similar, with some lacto notes. Overall: pretty good, but it lacks complexity IMO.

On tap. Pours a hazy amber with light head. Aromas of earthy coffee and fruit. Flavors of fresh ground coffee and stoned fruit. Interesting.

Hazy dull blonde with no head. Bretty nose with barrel, wine and coffee accents. Unique. Fun. Juicy, tart stone fruit, with vinous and coffee notes. This is fun stuff.
