Amarena is a barrel aged mixed fermentation sour made with fresh local Montmorency cherries from the Fraser Valley. Fermented with a mixed culture of several strains of Brettanomyces, Saccharomyces, and Lactobacillus, then aged for a full six months in red and white wine barrels on the cherries, and finally bottle conditioned with Brett Brux, Amarena is fruity, funky, complex and bright!

[Vintage 2022] 6oz pour at brewery. Pours cloudy ruddy orange with thin white head. Aroma is tart with notes of cherry, grapefruit, oak, very subtle red & white wines. Flavour has strong sour cherry flavour; grapefruit, red wine, oak. Fairly simple profile, but the represented flavours are well-done.

500mL bottle, pours an opaque pinkish amber with a small white head. Aroma is loaded with wild yeast, followed by a bit of white wine barrels, and tart cherries. Flavour is loaded with puckeringly tart cherries upfront, followed by white wine, and a touch of oak. Lots of tart cherries upfront, finishing with vinous notes. Not that complex but it's very pleasant.

Tasting at Erik's
Beautiful colour, bright, hazy red-copper. I like the aroma, intriguing, sour, funky, sour, fruity, sweaty. Aggressively sour, with a good fruit footbrint, very astringent, but ultimately without the extra eleganc eor complexity to be world class.

Stone fruit and earthy funk. Cloudy gold orange with a small white head. Soured stone fruit and a nice finish.

500ml bottle at Erik's. Appearance: hazy rose golden with a white head. Aroma: funky, barrel, sour cherries. Nice. Taste: similar, pretty sour and tart. Overall: I would prefer that this one has more fruity characthers and less acidity. For me it looks like it spent too much time in a fermenter and barrels.

Pale pink, slight haze. Tart, nice cherry notes, with a mellow woody, bretty accent. A nice beer, quite tart, and I like the cherry accents. Although, I liked this better with the coffee.
