Bottle. For its style, it must be one of the best. It is deep and flavourful. Very rich and warming. A bit much if you dont want a hug in a glass.

Clear deep amber colour, frothy off-white head, half-way lasting, good lacing. Aroma toasted malts, cocoa, caramel, dark fruits. Taste medium sweet and bitter, roasty, caramel, chocolate, touch of treacle. Roasty sweetbitter aftertaste, light fruity and chocolate notes. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, very nice, smooth and well-balanced.

Bottle from Village Vintners, Pyrford. A fruity, berry laced aroma, with a boozy hit. Caramel brown. Frothy off-white head, which doesn’t last too long before shrinking. Initially sweet before a bitterness appears and gains in strength. Fruit, of the stewed variety. Berries. Spices. Caramel. Booze. Medium-heavy bodied. Oily. Average carbonation. Low key finish, with some warmth to it. Had this a few years ago and did n’ t like it, but now I can’t get enough of these warming boozy ales.
