Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, launched in 2010, is an intense beer, dark in colour and full in taste.
The aroma is elegant, spicy and slightly roasted.
The sophisticated blend of special kinds of malt give the beer a complex character, combining a delicate dryness with hints of cariander, dark fruits, anise and roasted chestnuts. The palate finishes in a syrupy taste. The refermentation in the bottle creates a living beer that will evolve over the years.
EBC 100, 22° plato.

Bottle. Malty aroma and taste, light roastyness, spicy notes, raisins, light sweet, medium bitter. Full body, malty bitter finish with alcohol warming at the end.

Bottle at hop dog. Clear red brown with dirty white creamy head. Brown sugar, caramel roast nose, foamy mouthfeel, in fact fairly fizzy. dry roast, caramel, creme brulee flavors, mineral and herbal dry notes. A bit too heavy on the dark sugars.

Bottle at home in Hackney - can't recall where I got it. BBE April 2015 so reckon I picked this up a year or two before that? Pours mostly clear red-brown with a big, tight, creamy tan head. Medium to big sweet flavour with a lot of dried, dark fruits, berries, mellow oxidation rich brown bread, caramel, subtle earth. Medium to full bodied, lightly chewy, with delicate, massaging carbonation. Lightly warming finish, lightly sticky, notes of cherry, toffee, brown bread, raisins, figs, dates. Very tasty beer.

Pours a good deep muddy brown with decent beige foam. The aroma is floral banana with malt hints. Flavour is good malt, very chewy and sweet, but not excessively so given the high abv. Hints of brown sugar and fruit leather, slight candied molasses. There's an odd tinny aftertaste that I don't like and I'll probably forget about once I'm done this monster of a bottle but it's still there and noted. Otherwise very nice, a big huge beer that's easy to find. Certainly worth a look.
