Steamworks Brewing in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦

IPA - Imperial / Double Regular

Battleship is loaded with juicy hops that pack a punch. A bright nose leads to big tropical fruit flavours and a full mouthfeel. This nautical vessel of destruction has been dry hopped not one, but two times, giving it big hop flavour with fantastic balance and drinkability despite its bold appearance and high ABV.

473ml can. Pours a hazy orange gold with lots of floaties and a small, foamy, long lasting, off-white head that laces nicely. Sweet fruity aroma of caramel malt, orange, peach, mango and floral hops. Sweet fruity flavour of caramel malt, orange, grapefruit, peach and piney hops in a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Tasty, but pretty timid as far as DIPAs go. Could use more hop bite.

Gold with a greenish tint, good foam. Nice fruit hops on the nose, slightly sweet, peach and tangerine hints. Flavour is more tangerine, fake orange drink. Full and oily but the abv is very well hidden. Enjoyable, easy, a little simple.

473 ml can. Pours a clear golden amber with moderate head. Aromas of jammy stoned fruit, melons, a little resin and doughy malts. Flavors of dull tropical fruits, bitter citrus, light pine, and bready malts. Expecting a bit more, but still nice

Can, Legacy. Light amber colour with a touch of haze. Medium, but kind of weak, head on this. The nose shows a bit of lighter crystal (or other chewy) malts, some pine, but also a brighter more like tropical hop note. It's indistinct for the most part, but if you imagine pineapples and papayas you'd probably be on the right track. Full body, and the malts take more of biscuity tone on the palate, with only the slightest hint of chewiness. The hops follow suit - more muted on the palate. Take away the dry-hopping and it's got balance, and a sort of basic drinkability, but perhaps this is coming at the expense of making a strong statement in any particular direction. It's more piney on the palate than tropical, those notes being left behind in the aroma. It finishes fairly well balanced with just a touch of alcohol. I'd definitely prefer more hop brightness on the palate, but I appreciate the balance and that the chewy factor is just slight.

47,3 cl @ Timo A’s Go Nucks! tasting
Aroma has tropical fruits, graperfuit and sweet malt with juice. Flavour has resiny tones, sweet malt, tropical fruits and grapefruit. Some acidic tones in the finish. A DIPA on the malty side. To quote Immortan Joe: mediocre.

On tap at Steamworks Burnaby, pours a clear copper orange with a small white head. Aroma is very oily and orangey, with plenty of resinous hop oils, sticky orange peel, and a bit of pine. Very oily and orangey on the palate, with moderate sweetness. Well-made, just a bit too oily and orangey for my taste.

2021-09-20, can from the brewery, 7-4-7-3-15=36
Hazy blond colour. The aroma of tropical and stone fruits is quite nice; the mouthfeel is lean and just moderately sweet; but it's quite boozy and has traces of petroleum; balanced bitterness.
Not bad.

Golden colour, cloudy. Good strength, just moderately sweet, the malt base is not too strong, mild chalky character, the hop is bitter but not very expressive, there are some hop resins, some orange peel, and the alcohol is quite evident.
In the end, it's a good beer, not an award winning DIPA.
