Pandan is an aromatic leaf used in south- and southeast Asian cooking, which is an incredible coconut flavour enhancer. We toasted coconut at the brewery, so we could use freshly-toasted coconut in the brew kettle, with enough left over for a generous dry-coconut addition to the fermentor.

On tap at the brewery. Aroma is soft barley only, has good foam that goes away too fast on top of a dark brown black body. Flavour is weak barley with some sweetness, no complexity. Mouthfeel is full enough and the high alcohol is well hidden. It's simply okay, nothing too interesting going on.

Medium brown. Medium bubbly head. The aroma is actually chocolate-forward, with light pandan notes, subtle coconut, but also nutty in the finish. Not a bad beer, but I would like more unfermentables, and a brighter pandan note, and more expressiveness to the coconut. I feel the unique characteristics are just too understated here.

On tap. Pours a muddy dark brown with moderate head. Aromas of milk chocolate and soft roasted malts with a hint of cleaning fluid. Flavors of chocolate, unripened coconut, hard to place berries and roasted malts. Odd. If this is the influence of pandan, maybe pass next time...

Taster. Appearance: almost black with a bit tan head Aroma: roasted malt with slight grassy notes, where is coconut? Taste: taste is pretty the same, very light body, with light grassy and coconut notes Overall: this does not taste as a coconut imperial porter at all, just a regular porter, not more than that.

Draught at the brewery
Dark brown colour. Light aroma and bread and caramel. Mild flavour of caramel, mild body, some sweetness, light coconut.
I'm very familiar with pandan, and I would not think of it. Maybe it's just muffled by stronger elements.
Ok beer, not bold, quite boring.

Dark roast and some toast. Jet brown black with a decent beige head. Dark roast and chocolate with a long toasty coconut finish.

On tap at Dageraad, pours black with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out subdued coconut porter upfront, with a touch of citrus. Flavour is similar, with somewhat subdued coconut character upfront. I don't really notice the pandan leaf. Nice, simple stuff.
