This past September in the pre-Witchstock chaos, we wrangled the guys from Cloudwater to brew a session stout with us. Our aim was simple, to make a smooth stout with a moderate ABV that was decidedly more toffee-like than roasty. The result is a fantastically balanced beer with foundations of caramelized malts and chocolate, that we split into two variants: OG, and with coffee.

What it smells like, what it tastes like: Flavours and aromas of strawberry, caramel and milk chocolate are tempered by light roasty notes and a subtle bitterness.

Bottle: Poured a light black color ale with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt notes with some light bitter chocolate notes. Taste is a mix of smooth black chocolate notes with some light dry bitter chocolate malt notes. Body is light with strong carbonation. Enjoyable but a bit thin overall.

Tasting at Oakes' Manor
Dark brown colour. Some cardboard and puke in the aroma. Dry, some roast, some caramel, rather boring.

500mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out medium toasted malt, with a touch of cocoa. Flavour is pretty light, with dry cocoa, toasted malt, and a touch of earthiness. Very light-bodied, but the flavours are very balanced and pleasant. Very good.

Medium brown body with a thin head. This has a fairly fudgey aroma. Soft body, light. Some fudgey stuff, maybe nutty. Basic old school stout, without much character and nuance.
