John and Hugh Labatt, grandsons of founder John K. Labatt, launched Labatt 50 in 1950 to commemorate 50 years of partnership. The first light-tasting ale introduced in Canada, Labatt 50 was Canada's best-selling beer until 1979 when, with the increasing popularity of lagers, it was surpassed by Labatt Blue. Labatt 50 is fermented using a special ale yeast, in use at Labatt since 1933. Specially-selected North American hops and a good balance of dryness, complemented by a fruity taste, provide Labatt 50 with all the distinguishing features of a true ale.

Yellow gold, large but fading head. Light haze. Some buttery pale palt with a slight aroma of herbal and spicy hops. Straightforward and clean, with med malt flavor and a good dosing of spicy hop flavors. Finish only lightly bitter. Surprisingly not bland or watery, but still rather middle of the road in all respects.

i dont know what to think about this. very confusing taste. rather offensive. tastes like a good skunked beer. not sure what they are trying to do with this one. . .
Rerate. Itβs scary that Iβve already had this. Aroma of sweet, honey malt, corn flowers, minerals, hay, grass. Flavor of grassy hops, bits of malt, dusty cardboard, xerox paper. The fact that you can just barely taste hops is impressive, in an ironic way. Looks about the same as any pale lager macro, yellow, fizzy white head. . .

Ultra-bland golden ale, a perfect complement to Labatt's line of ultra-bland golden lagers.
