Bottle: Golden, cloudy, stable "dirty" white head; fruity-malty nose with adistinctive hoppy touch; solid - mainly dry - bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; lingering hoppy and fruity finish. Rough, but good......

Cask at Max’s in Baltimore. Cloudy dark yellow, thin white head that disappears rapidly and leaves massive lacing. Aroma of citrus and malt, with a bit of white pepper. Taste is dominated by the malt, but well-balanced, dry bitter, peppery finish. This is pretty much what a traditional English bitter should taste like - not over the top, not massively hopped or highly spiced. Classic example of the style, properly served.

9th June 2008
8 months past BBE date. A bland tepid watery bitter. A little frothy creamyness and not much else to note. Boring 1.8.

6th June 2011
Hazy orange beer, tidy white head. Semi dry and crisp palate. Mildly tart orange. A little grapefruit bitterness. Seltzerish minerals and a dry finish. Much better than last time but possibly carrying a very mild infection. A bit dry.

500 ml bottle purchased at Gomers in Lees Summit, Missouri. Pour is hazed yellow golden, with a billowing off white head (4 inches at least) that was quite lasting, eventually falling with thick lacing. The head falls with really interesting reverse cascading, almost like its building down to a full glass of beer - I was mesmerized. Aroma of caramel and honey malt, some spritzy lemon bitterness, some grass and hay, even some pickled ginger. There is also a hint of oxidation (there was no date on the bottle that I could locate). Taste is toasty malt, with some of the caramel and honey sweetness from the nose. This quickly turns to the grassy earthiness. The bitter, ginger taste from the nose is present, but mostly in the finish. As with the nose, the lingering finish has some cardboard oxidation. Really does not detract too much for me. Palate is medium, slightly chewy, almost entirely flat. Overall, interesting enough, I like the toasty chewiness to it. The hop bitterness is almost entirely gone, would be interesting to try this one in its true form.

bottle from Tuckers Maltings. Hazy golden yellow, large and persistent white head. Aroma of flowery hops and citrus fruit. Full-bodied, pleasantly malty with good fruity flavours (lemon, bitter orange). Good balance between the bitterness and aroma of the hops. A delicious brew.

Cask at the Diamond poured into a British pint. It pours with a completely clear orange/amber color and a fake bubbly head created because of the cask (it of course fades quickly). Aroma is musky British malts with a cheap, watered down tea aroma. Taste is empty, plain dry cracker biscuit malts. Its ok but completely boring and useless.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese Place in (near) St. Louis, MO. Orangish amber color with a multifinger off-white head. Aroma of light stone fruit - some peach - and a little caramel. Medium body with biting, creamy carbonation. Flavor does seem peachy with light bready malt backing. Finishes nicely bitter. Something like a fruity ESB trying to morph into something more bitter. Really good flavor. Finishes fairly dry.

Pours gold into an English pint. Bright white micro head tophats the rim. Leaving sheet lacing as it slowly recedes. Grapefruit and lemon zest aromas. Crisp and full malts upfront turning creamy summer fruits before the dry, lasting grapefruit finish. IPA-like.
